Hello, my fellow "booties"

Wish I had some amazing report of scaling mountains, bench pressing 150 and ball room dancing into the wee hours, but to be honest.... I'm in a sludge...

I did something very BAD about a week or so ago.... I stopped....
I stopped my w/o, I stopped caring about what I put into my body or even what I DID to my body and I got into a big, ugly sludge....

but cry no tears for me... because the season of sludge is over, I started raw again today, started journaling, and I MOVED!!!

only about 20 minutes on the rebounder (and trust me.. it was sooo tuff) but at least the cycle is broken and the blood is flowing a bit now.

Tommorrow is a brand new day, and I am finally feeling confident it is the day we smack ourselves back into where we were and get on with life again.

My how I do hate damage control.... why ever do we even let it get slack like this I don't know, but the damage is done...

so I guess its just onward and upward all.

See you tommorrow.

your in my prayers

just_jo you cracked me up with that e-mail! You are a great writer.

damage control was such a perfect way to sum it all up!

I don't want to get up early and work out. I enjoy waking up - and lazily getting out of bed - and getting rollin with a slow start.

The walk outside did me good.

Where did those days of getting up at 6:30am and going to the gym go? ANd why don't I miss them?

Not sure what to do tomorrow about exercise.

I seem to be rebelling at the moment towards anything too restrictive - or anything I "should" do.

I'm still eating all raw. and have confirmed I am vegan. so that's not wavering. But I must admit - that exercise and I are not buddies right now.

i know i know i know!!!!!! roar!!!!!

Today I walked to trader joes ( about 45 minutes )
and took a cab home with my groceries

then an hour later took a walk to and from the bank to make a deposit. That's the BEST kind of exercise!!!!! and that was another 40 minutes.

SO THERE MISSY!
HA!

Tonight I'm going to do yoga with "inhale" on oxygen.

SO THERE AGAIN!

HA!

and YES it was ME who thought up the brilliant idea of raw on bootcamp - darn it all.

Hey and its now 8:30 and my resolve to not eat apres 8 is still strong~Go Jo Go!!!!

I am gonna try to put in some rebounder time in a bit and almost think I hear the free weights calling my name.... (maybe if I'm lucky, they'll shutup soon)

See you tommorrow, at the gym, brite and early, squirely.

you rock!

DId you say snow...what's that?!?! hahahaha

I used to live in Minneapolis so I know ALL about that.

I actually found out that I have a long lost friend living near me and we are going to get together tomorrow for a hike in pasadena.

I do prefer being outside rather then in the gym so this is a dream !

Good for you with the food thing.

I'm done for the night as well. It's 6:30pm here but I indulged in lots of food today so I know I can stop now! hahaha!

Have a great time tomorrow....

I did it. Yesterday, I walked 1 hour and today also for 1 hour. Plus I did a lot of packing and lifting of boxes, so that counts for weight training, right?

How great for you, Catherine, that you'll be able to hike!

just_jo
03-30-2005, 09:24 AM
WOO HOOO!!!!

RawTruth!! Look at her go!!

You bet lifting those boxes count!!
Just make sure you don't lift with your back and squuuuuuueeeeeeeze those buttsles!

Hey Catherine!!
Time to rise and shine!

Guess what I did this morning.. huh, huh!!cummon guess!!

I put in 43 minutes on the rebounder- actually felt SWEAT!
Then I did a bit of free weights for the tucus and zee saddle bags-
can we all say "BYE BYE SADDLE BAGS"???

oooooo... I must confess, about the not eating 3 hours before bed thang....
I snuck an orange last night about 11 :( bad, bad, Jo.....
but it was sooooooooo good!!

Enjoy your hike, I'll be thinking of you while I'm plowing thru the snow.

Hey, the no food 3 hrs before bedtime is just not my thing. I eat something every two to three hours anyway, so I'd be raving if I skipped that. My body just needs fuel to burn.

But ... the cardio every day is definitely for me. I become the sludge in the bottom of the sewer if I don't get out there and move. My knees preclude running -- which I loved/hated -- so it's walking. Not strolling -- really movin it out there. And, the weather can't be beat right now -- though I have to admit I did it even through our weird rainy global warming weather. Just went to a mall and powerwalked my way through those godawful food court aromas.

Now, back to weight training. This used to be a regular for me along with running -- originally trained with one of the first So Cal coaches to train women (before spandex!) and I know my body snaps to attention fast once I start lifting. Just need to decide whether to re-join a gym or do it at home -- my social nature says gym gym gym, but my schedule is getting busier and I don't know if reality will smack me in the face. To be at a 7:30 a.m. appt. that'll last through the afternoon makes it quite challenging to work out before ... and once the day starts, the odds of me weight lifting decreases drastically. I'm just an early exerciser -- that's what my body says.

What to do? Well, for now, I'm walking like a fanatic -- and more box lifting later today!

Good to hear from you both - Raw Truth you are rockin with the power walks!

I too have a gym dilema - joined the YMCA ( at $35 per month I figured it was the safest bet ) and now I don't go . I want to be able to work out when I want to - and not have it revolve around when I can use Jerry's car.

So today - I went on the hike. It kicked my booty! She walks fast - she had her dog with ehr - so I tried to keep up - HA Barely could I was winded for most of it - anyone taller then me always out walks me. But it was great. Stopped at a creek and chatted for a while then turned around and came back. We think it was a 2 mile hike. I must say that that sounds accurate. I can really feel it.

We talked about going again next week. Could be a great new thing to do regularly.

We stopped at a french restaurant and I asked for an all raw salad which they did with flying colors - the dressing was great too. I was very pleased.

Now I'm home and feel great.

Need to walk to the post office later. I think I'll wait until it's less hot out - like sunset time.

Where'd you hike? Have you been to Eaton Canyon yet? You mentioned Pasadena, so I thought either the canyon or Arroyo Seco might have been where you went. They're both great. We're very lucky to live where we do -- such an array of options for doing stuff outdoors ...mountains, ocean, desert, shopping mall  !!

hahaha! So true!

We were near alta dena somewhere - next to the arroyo I think!?!?!

It was a bit of heaven for me. I'd love to go back - but I don't go hiking alone...So Jerry will have to join me!

Uh oh - I feel a nap coming on!

So great to have my own schedule so I can actually nap if I want to!!!

I'm going to go nap outside in the fresh air.

No I haven't heard of the Eaton Canyon I'll look it up. I know ! WE are SO lucky to live here!

So girls, Congrats on the mall walking, hike, and Box lifting, and yes those boxs do count...Wiegh To Go!!! : )

I'm sad to report the only excersie my body has seen lately are my fingers plowing away on the 10key at work, for some 11 hours. It's really hard to get going when I get home from these long days, but you guys are a total inspiration , so I'll have to get with the program.

Catherine, you live in the middle of a glorious hiking mecca. When I get some time I'll have to break out my books and let you know of some wonderful hikes near you, I know there's one out there thats great, it's simple but amazing and is full of the history of the area. I can't believe women back in the 20's & 30's used to hike the area all dressed up in heels and pettycoats, etc..., it's mind boogling. And I think it's hard in my shorts and REI boots, huh what do I know.

Well keep up the good workouts. I'm going to try to do some yoga tomorrow, when I get home. Hopefully go for a couple of good hikes with Dennis this weekend. Theres one that overlooks the Penninsula, and on a clear day you can see Catalina Island, I hope we can do this one.

Ok, so I've been on vacation in Arizona for the past 3.5 weeks and I slipped off the raw wagon here n there. (especially over easter). Anyhow, I was moderate enough in my choices that I didn't put on any weight, (i actually LOST 3 lbs - go figure), but I just feel like bollocks and want to get back on track.

So tomorrow I'm starting another 30 day raw food challenge, and I'm also going to join the bootie camp, and exercise daily for the next 30 days too. (i'm only committing to 30 days right now cuz I just got a new job on the east coast and I'm relocating from Cali in 4 weeks).

Anyway, I'll be checking in regularly, so catch up with you all soon.

Peace.

Kiwikid.. (love that handle....looooove kiwis!!)

So nice to have another camper with us!!
Funny, I'm off to Arizona in 2 weeks for my brother's wedding, and I'm worried about the same thing... are the grapefruits ready down there yet??
Thats what I'm looking forward too.
I was there about the same time a few years ago, and thats all I can remeber, is the novelty of being able to pick citrus right from the tree!!

I'm holding out for that!!

Well,its been a hard weekend for me,gang.
But I think I passed my tests fair enough.

Tried to put in some excersises at least so my body won't forget what to do and planning on getting back on the program tommorrow.

Tonite, instead of snacking before bed, I had a drink of powdered green stuff, that seemed to satisfy me just as good as anything else, and that was about 3 hours ago......

me thinks me might be on to something.......

hugs and squishes.....

see ya'll tommorrow

welcome back - I'd love to hear how you are doing now that you are back at it. I hope the cooked food wasn't painful to your system - I keep hearing that from others who decide to eat cooked.

Anyhow - I am glad to see you hear again!!

Did you ever start a forum on the Oprah sight??? If so... what is the name..

Well I have been raw vegan for about 2+ years... off and on.. Mostly On..
Put together 6+ months.. and ate cooked.. Now seem to put together some time.. and eat cooked for 2 days... But that is the past!!! : :D  ;)

I started raw again after having the grandbabies for 2 1/2 days on the weekend. (I seem to use them as my excuse to slip.. hmmm) Sunday night I started raw again.. so now I have 3 days... BUT I am starting today as my first day of Bootcamp.. I am 51 yrs young, 5'2", and this morning my weight was 121.6lbs..
In these 90 days:
I will remain 100% lowfat 8/1/1 raw vegan.
I will lose 18 to 20 lbs.
My bodyfat will be 17% or less.
Each day, weather permitting, I will spend 15+ minutes outdoors for Vitamin
D and fresh air.
I will WT 6 days a week (one body part per day), cardio 6 days.
I will do all this so I will enjoy more energy, strength and become more
successful.
I will focus on my top 3 priorities.. my business, fitness & health, and
spiritual growth.
I will laugh more and have more fun!!!

Today I ate 3 1/2 cantaloupe, 6 bananas and 2 California Navel Oranges.

I racewalked to the gym.. 3.55 miles in about 53 minutes
I did circuit training... chest, shoulders & triceps for 50 minutes
I racewalked & power kick back walked back home .. 3.55 miles in abt 55 minutes..

I have not exercised in ages... consistently... and this is fantastic what you all are doing here!!!! Thanks,

~PJ

Today I did a 30 minute racewalk.. 2.4 miles... Did my legs, hamstring, quads and calves.. then finished on the ellipitical trainer for 35 minutes..

Today... I had 4 oranges for breakfast.. 2 oranges for lunch (I wasn't really hungery).. 5 bananas for afternoon snack... 5 plums... and 2 oranges for afterwork food..

I guess I am going to have to stay up till 10pm tonight..

Tomorrow I leave for Iowa (I live in Twin Cities, Minnesota) for Grandparents day at my grandson's school tomorrow early afternoon.. I will either come home Saturday late or Sunday... I plan on taking lots of oranges, ripe bananas, plums and cantaloupe..

Hi Everyone,

Well I went to Iowa for my grandson's Grandparents Day at his school.
It was wonderful.

I did great Friday, Saturday and Sunday until evening.. I had originally planned to come home Saturday or Sunday early but my son asked my about 2:30pm to just stay over night again. Which I agreed to... I asked him if he would like pizza for dinner... and of course he affirmed he would.. So my daughter-in-law and I went drove 20 miles to get the fresh made pizza to cook once we got home.. It was vegetarian... it did have cheese.. it was cooked... and I did eat it... lots of it... I started raw vegan again Monday about 10:30am... I regret doing what I did but... I start again..

I exercised Wedn, Thurs, Fri and Saturday... Sunday I took off but did go out on their big trampoline.. and did some stomach exercise... and got some Vitamin D from the Sun...

Glad to be back!!

Today, I did not exercise, it rained all day... but ate cantaloupe, bananas smoothie with celery, blueberries and blackberries..

Tomorrow is another day!!

Hey where is everyone??????

Well, I was knocked out for a few days -- kinda literally. On Saturday, my foot twisted to the side as I was putting my weight on it and I ended up on the ground ... and with a pulled tendon. Incredibly painful ... and I have a high pain tolerance. I couldn't walk on it at all. I ended up with it elevated, iced, and me reduced to crutches and whimpering. Slept on the couch with a million cushions keeping my foot high up. By yesterday, though, I could walk normally. I wouldn't have ever thought I could heal that fast. Never would have before. I chalk it up to the network chiropractic I've been doing and to the raw food. I think my body is just getting itself together at light speed. There is a still-blooming incredibly purple huge bruise starting at the sole of my foot extending up past my ankle bone which still has a bit of swelling. My chiro today said I should still be icing it (since it's within 72 hrs of injury) and talked to me about why I might be inviting injury. Yikes and damn! When we're awake, every thing is about awareness, huh!!

Anyway, I did do 10,000 steps yesterday and 6,000 so far today, so I'm back in the swing, but I definitely skipped a few.

My eating is on course. I was so incredibly tempted to have a decadent chocolate concoction at Starbuck's yesterday while I was there with my laptop and a cup of herbal tea. Then, I realized how insensitive I was being to my own self for going there where there was such temptation. Silly me!! While my nose filled with the chocolate aroma and my taste buds started tingling, though, I just visualized the dates I had at home and the other goodies I could have when I got there.

I'm not sure about the oprah site anymore - you can do it all right here though. I never use that site - we just made it to create a raw food presence out in the main stream but we post everything here.

by the way - I went to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design...didn't you say you live in the twin cities?! I lived there for 8 years
worked at the Guthrie Theatre, lived near Lyndale and all the coffee shops over there....Bob's Java hut, Muddy Waters, etc. Used to work at the Egg and I too - way back before it moved to it's current location.

Love Minneapolis.

I was just there this past October.

Catherine..
Hey that is great!!! The area you mentioned that you live... is a fantastic, fun area... Have you ever gone to the Ecopolitan Restaurant right there on Lyndale in that area??? It is about 3 blocks from the Wedge Co-op, right next door to Muddy Waters. It is the old Victorian... After I had done a 11-12 day juice fast & cleanse, I went to the Wedge, was starving.. and someone pointed me to the Ecopolitan saying that is was a vegan restaurant. Actually it is a raw vegan restaurant.. the only one that I know of in the Twin Cities.. That is when I decided to become raw vegan about 3 yrs ago. I have evolved from there.. fine tuning it... striving to be 100 percent 80/10/10 raw vegan.. I really feel, act and think best when I am... :D

Love the Guthrie and all the arts here in the Cities.. I moved from Iowa to Rochester then to Minneapolis in about 1988. I have lived all over the cities... and now live in Chanhassen. Have you ever gone to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater??? There are frequently plays I would like to see but now I will go for the play and NOT the dinner... chuckles...

What did you do at the Guthrie??

Thanks for the clarification on the Oprah site.. I will post here.. How long have you been 100% raw vegan?? I can not wait! till I get 1yr, 5yr, 20yr.. etc.. chuckling..

Cool here right now, about 38 degrees.. but will be about 65 today... with temp gradually increasing to 70 on Sunday...

Well I better get moving... Need to hit the gym and be back.. Have a 11am conference call I have to make!

Peace & Serenity,
~PJ

Hello everyone..

Looks everyone has gotten busy... Hope I am not the only one journaling here... but that would be okay for awhile at least!!!

Have been doing good.. I have been doing lots of walking... at least 5.4 miles a day... and weight training.. Next week... I will start a new week and be doing WT six days a week .. one day for each body part.. and then also cardio.. I have been doing cardio usually 2 times a day... Today it was only once before my weight training.. I did 50 minutes on the elliptical trainer.. then did my back and biceps.. Eating has been good for me also.. and that feels great... Was going out for a racewalk about 5pm but it look very cloudy and like it will rain...

Have gotten really busy with my business.. exciting technology.. but I need to remember that eating healthfully and exercising and spiritual growth and awareness are necessary for me to Be in this life.. Hopefully... .. actually I believe that putting the foot .. one step at a time... forward.. will make a better life and world..

Everyone have a great weekend!!!

I'm sorry I disappeared from this thread. I wanted to give you an update to explain why.

basically because of the joint pain and stiffness it's become more and more like I'm fighting my body by exercising. It's painful and I"m not really interested in doing that to myself anymore. I went to a doctor last week who told me to do very gentle yoga 2 times per week.
I cancelled my YMCA membership last week because I just wasn't going anymore and I wasn't interested in pushing.

So my new plan is to listen to my doctor even though I love Oprah and her bootcamp idea and I was the one who started this thread! I need to just pay attention to where I am at.

So my new goals are to do yoga 2 times per week and to go rest and take things slow.

I hope this thread continues to be helpful to anyone who wants to use it as a support network. But I think for now I'm going to stay off of this thread and just go inward a bit since I'm no longer interested in doing bootcamp.

I just saw Oprah on TV last night and was shocked on how big her face looked including tired to me. No kidding -- talk about shocked -- I was.

With all her billions I bet, if she wanted, a raw boot camp would be great for her to experience how to do the program.

I bet we could have raw chefs here and non chefs teach her many tricks. Wouldn't it be worth it to her? She knows about the movement -- lifestyle --already.

Hi All,

I am a new member at "rawfoodbootcamp.com".

I wanted to just inform you that a bootcamp for raw does exist, since you didn't seem to know it!!

I am a raw food chef at Arnoldsway in Phila pa and just happened upon this forum, because you were looking for bootcamps for raw.

Rawfoodbootcamp.com is a very intensive program, pretty much 80/10/10 (although there are other options). The most intensive program is no salt, no nuts, lots of exercise, lots of rules. The program is intended for morbidly obese people considering gastric bypass. But i believe others who don't have as much to lose join and can follow less stringent plans, and are grateful for the tremendous support offered by Carlene, herself a bigtime "loser" of over 130 pounds, who did it on 80/10/10.

I have lost 160lbs on a raw diet (previously, not at bootcamp), have been raw over 2 years, but, unfortunately, in eating all gourmet and not exercising enough, i recently put on several pounds.

Since starting the bootcamp approach (80/10/10), i've lost like...over 8 pounds in 3 days. Very encouraging!!

I don't use this forum, so if you have any questions/comments, please email me!!
