View Full Version : Any Dance dvd suggestions?
Can anyone suggest a dance dvd for me? I went to buy one and there are so many to choose from. I want to be prepared when the snow and ice hits Ohio.
I'm, 70# overweight and out of shape, so I know I can't do the hip-hop type.
I just wanna have fun!
Thanks,
Nini

Core Rhythms looks pretty good. Really you can get any one of them & just do it at your own pace. I do that all the time. I usually will use one more for motivation than anything. I like Denise Austin a lot. If you get her on TV in your area (usually early am), you can record the show & do it when it's convenient for you.
Thanks gilmoregirl.
Any more suggestions??

Hi... I think I may have many of the dvd's you saw... grins* I love to dance and enjoy it for workouts... the ones I have vary from ballet to hip hop to Latin and on it goes... lots of them! I like variety... the spice of life as they say... :p
Overall, I prefer ones that have upbeat music... that get me moving! Most of them are well done... so look for what sparks your interest... what looks like fun! The movements will come the more you do them... no need to be perfect... just go for it... and enjoy! :D
Belly Dancing with Neena and Veena - fun!
:D :D :D uncontrollable laughter!!!! :D :D :D
But ya know what? I might try it!!
Star - there are sooo many that dance the same style. Are any of yours easier to understand than others? Like the explanations, seeing the actual footwork, etc.?

I have/had a couple of Denise Austin's videos and I find her voice and how she talks in them, very annoying. It's very breathy, like she's trying to be relaxing. It seems like a small thing, but it really grates on you, lol.
Leslie Sansone has really good walk away the pounds videos.
If you don't really want to jump all over the place, or if you have limited room, try pilates. Pilates are awesome. They'll kick your arse*, too.

Hi Nini... Denise Austin is easy to follow. If you find you like dancing for exercise... perhaps you can spice it up with another style... that catches your interest later.
PBS (Public Broadcasting Station) has a wonderful program that I do to start my mornings. It is called Classical Stretch and is a combination of simple ballet stretches, movements, and tai chi. It is doable for anyone and I love it! A great gentle way to get moving. Here is the link to PBS... if you put in your zip code... you can see if it shows on your local PBS station.

You ladies have sparked my interest in... belly dancing! That may be my next adventure... :D

Hey I was being serious!!! Try checking it out from your local library to take it for a test dance. Neena and Veena are well-known belly dancers. They are twins (if you haven't figured that out) but the dances are FUN and doesn't feel like you are doing exercises.
Sharon - I really did take this seriously. I can just picture myself doing it and if you could see me you'd chuckle, too! I plan on going to the library to see if they have it.
I'll keep ya posted!

As for me, I've been doing a Latin routine the last few weeks... fast paced and fun! Great way to wind down after a busy day... The Belly Dancing sounds fun too... Will look foward to hearing more about it!

Hello - I recently bought Ballet Boot Camp 2 and it really kicks my butt :D. I also love the New York City Ballet workouts (1&2). I think Ballet Boot Camp is a bit harder the the NYCB ones, but I love all three.
Anyone heard of "Zumba" or something like it? The classes are expensive, but might be fun. Maybe there is a dvd.

+1 on the Veena and Neena! When I was first starting belly dance, this was a fun and useful way for me to practice! If you like dancing, you'll probably love belly dance! :)

Try collagevideo.com. They do a great job of describing the exercise videos they sell and have online reviews by customers.
If you like modern dance, The Method's "Dance to Fitness" is great.
If you're not afraid of a faster pace and funky choreography, Paula Abdul's "Get up and Dance" is a lot of fun, if it's still in print.

Have you checked out Misty Tripoli? www.mistytripoli.com
I have to admit to a bias, as she's a good friend of mine, but she really is an awesome person and a dynamic teacher.
Her emphasis is not on doing the "right' step at the right time, but on moving in a way that is authentic for your body.
She also lives what she teaches...she's in awesome shape, and she doesn't lift weights or any of that...just dances gobs every day.
