View Full Version : Yummy Chai (or Egg Nog)

I made a really fabulous chai drink the other day, but the last 2 times I made it it tasted more like egg nog. Both were super fabulous! Anyway I guess it could be either depending on the spices you use.

Here's what I did:

large glass of almond milk
chai spices (I don't have all of them, I used cinnamon, anise, nutmeg, clove, black pepper, and ginger)
blend it really well
strain the chunky spices off (In my case clove)
blend with honey and vanilla
throw in 1 frozen banana

Ah Bliss!!!!

Ah the season for this is just upon us. Somehow this does not sound that appealing in summer but does now. It's the 'winter blues' gene in us?

To MangoMommy: Chai is usually black tea, cardamom, ginger, clove, cinnamon, black pepper, plus any assortment of "spicy" spices you can find :)

Hi... There are many varieties of Chai Spice Blends... Here is a quick recipe if you have these spices but, don't have a chai spice blend at home... :D

MARSALA CHAI BLEND: (this will make enough for several servings)
1 tsp ground green cardamom
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
*Mix together... This will make 2 1/4 teaspoons

*You can increase proportions to make more... and vary spices to your preference
*There are a variety of spices used for different blends... here are some of the spices used... you may want to add some of these in

CHAI SPICES:
Allspice
Black Pepper
Cardamom
Cinamon
Cloves
Corriander
Ginger
Mace
Nutmeg
Star Anise
Fennel
Bay Leaf
Vanilla Bean


*If you want to try a traditional Chai Tea Drink:

MARSALA CHAI TEA:
1 C almond milk
2 tsp India tea leaves or black tea leaves
1 Tbl date sugar (or substitute... to taste with Agave or Stevia)
two pinches of Marsala Chai Spice Blend

*warm almond milk and let sugar dissolve and tea leaves steep
*strain tea leaves and stir in small amount of chai seasoning (1st pinch of spice)
*dust top of chai tea with small pinch of spice and serve
