Awwww...I think that during the process of "canning/jarring" them, it's boiled but I could be wrong. I don't know...good question! But in the recipe forum, someone posted a recipe for refrigerator pickles...I think it was Rawgranny, but not exactly sure, I just recall briefly viewing it.

I was wondering the same thing. And what about canned black olives and jars of green olives.

When I made pickles, dill or sweet, I boiled the jars in a waterbath to seal them. So, my vote is they are not raw (at least mine weren't).
What about the ones in the refrigerator section - vlasic - the crisp pickle or something like that? Don't know about those - perhaps you could contact them and find out. For now, I am taking the tac that if it is sold in a jar, it is probably processed in some fashion.

I enjoy making my own pickles during the summer when I can pick them from my own garden or my folks garden. I had a 1 gal jar which had pickles in them from Wal-Mart one year and left the brine in it and just kept cutting up cukes and adding for a couple of months until the brine went bad. I don't see why you cant get the spices and such and make your own frig pickles all summer.

Thanks for your ideas. Yeah, I guess making my own would be a good idea. I didn't know if it would work without the heat, but I suppose there's one way to find out!.
If they made dill candy, I'd eat it every day. That's how much I love dill. Can't get enough!

Yes, it will work without the heat. I have made several batches of great refrigerator pickles. I also have tried pickling zucchini, garlic, peppers, onions. All have turned out great except the garlic. I think next time I will have to chop the garlic finely.
