As I have posted several times, I have had female issues. My doctor pretty much promised I would be pregnant right now if I did her treatment, but I choose to go a different path. I have decided to start one of the medications she perscribed. I am planning to do so tonight. I have not ovulated but once in over a year. I have used this medication before and got pregnant in just over a month of using it. I hate the medication though, it gives me side effects that at the time she told me to take it I was not willing to go for, but now I feel I should. I feel good. Health was something that just a few months ago I did not have, but now I feel FANTASTIC! I am hoping that combine with healthy lifestyle (via raw foods) and the medication I will achieve a healthy pregnancy and carry to term and have little raw babies in the near future.

Good news would be if I got pregnant as fast as I did last time I used this drug then I won't be on it long as all. The medicine is called Metformin. It was used for diabetics exclusively, but now it is used for infertility in women with PCOS.

Anyone had issues concieving and had a turn around on raw?
Did you do it with or without outside help?
Any tips?
Suggestions?

Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.

Hey Lay-Lay,

Although I haven't tried to conceive - yet, my doctor said my ovulation was so irregular that I was likely to have trouble conceiving/possible not be able to. Since going 100% Raw 5 months ago, I am COMPLETLY regular! I know that it's not the same as conceiving, but I'm hoping this will help me. Have you checked if you are ovulating now that you are Raw?

omg omg don't don't. I have PCOS. I was on metformin all last year and is the reason WHY I am on a raw foods diet. It was so horrible to my liver and left me with only half the hemoglobin that I was supposed to have. PLLEEEEAAASSEEE reconsider. It is a very powerful drug that I am detoxing horribly right now. I attribute it to my difficult skin detox. I am now looking to the raw food lifestyle to give me all the things that metformin promised but couldn't possibly deliver. Metformin also burned a whole in my esophogus when it got stuck and it was such a horrible experience. AHH!!!!! I am only telling you this because I care about no one making the same mistake I did! Please reconsider!!!!!!!!!!

thanks Rawsun!

Chevy I appreciate the warning. I will give this more thought. I am taking it currently and have finally gotten over all the side effects, sleepy.....etc.....I so hate that you had such horrible effects from this drug. Do you have children? Were you taking it hoping for children? I have been trying to have a baby over 3 years now. We were pregnant nearly 2 years ago and lost our little girl. sigh...

I'm really sorry about your loss.

I don't really know your story or know anything about fertility, but have you tried something herbal like red raspberry, false unicorn or red clover? I have taken red raspberry for other things and I swear it affects the reproductive system.

Ok, you probably have tried everything, but I was just asking anyway.

Lay Lay-

I am not trying to have children right now in my life. I am only 18 and a freshman in college. I am hoping that I am starting raw young enough to be able to have children by the time I want to.

That being said, I understand that our situations are very different, and if this is the way that you feel you could concieve the fastest then metformin is probably much more worth it for you than for me. I know that I have heard that it works for many people to ovulate and concieve on metformin, and they have happy, healthy babies. I really wish you the best of luck! And when you concieve ( which I am believing you will :) ) I would jsut get off the medicine as quickly as possible, like you were talking about.

Good luck!!!!!

Oh Oh. Also.... if you wanted to try something natural: Chasteberry extract is supposed to do the same thing when taken daily for a certain number of months. I have heard just as many success stories on chasteberry (or vitex) as I have on emtformin , minus the side effects and acidosis!!!!! I don't know the specifics of how to go about taking it and how much a day ( i started and then decided to just do raw instead)... but it may be well worth looking into!

I Lay Lay...I will pray that you concieve as soon as possible and have a bunch of raw babies soon. I tried for 8 years before I finally concieved and had my daughter. (she is 15 months old now). They were going to put me on meds as well, but I decided to try all natural foods , acupuncture, yoga, prayer and meditation. I wasn't all raw, but my chinese acupuncturist put me on all red fruit, all red veges and all red meat as long as it was organic. I ate tons of cherries, strawberries, beets, red cabbage, red bell pepper, etc. The red according to my acupuncturist encourages good blood supply to the ovaries and uterus and I got pregnant 3 months after I stopped going to the traditional doctors. I also had endometriosis and 6 fibroid tumors and 2 ovarian cysts as well and an irregular ovulatory pattern.

I am thinking of trying to get pregnant again this year or next. Hopefully my raw diet will assist as well. I honestly think the acupuncture was a GODSEND!! It fixed alot of my other problems as well. My night sweats went away after one treatment and My vaginal dryness went away after 2 treatments. It was truly amazing.

My traditional doctors of course were amazed. They repeated my ultrasound when I told them I was pregnant and found that one of the Ovarian cysts had disappeared, and the fibroids has shrunken. The other cyst remained until I gave birth and the fibroids regrew during my pregnancy because of the increased hormones. But I have a beautifully healthy daughter and I thank God daily for that. Again, my prayers are with you daily. I know what you are going through. I miscarried as well 7 years ago.

hi Dogmd,

Thank you so much. It's really encouraging to me. I appreciate you sharing it with me. It really got me thinking and I am going to look into the red thing as well as the acupuncture.

I don't know if it will help, but here's my story:

I had menorhaggia (I still can't spell it!) for about a year. I lost sooo much blood every single day, it was awful. was sooo anemic, so overweight and a totally SAD junk food vegan.

Within 3 weks of going raw, it was gone and I was fine. Really. The change was amazing. My cycle became regular, I had no pms or cramps and it only lasted 3 days.

Here's the "New Age" part ;)

I've always used astrology to avoid pregnancy, and finally two years ago, to conceive. You'll find info on the 'net about lunar rythm method. Basically, you can conceive when the moon is in the same phase it was in when you were born.

example: When I was born, the moon was full. We conceived our son on the August full moon in 2004.

It's pretty easy to figure out and it doesn't hurt anything, it's just an extra couple of days to do the baby dance ;)

Good Luck!

Beth

I heard an article on the radio today that stated that you become considerably more fertile if you loose a lot of weight and have to increase the strength of your contraceptive pill.
The discussion was about the new fad of The Lipotrim Diet which is running rampant in this country at the moment. 6 members of my family are on it (sisters and neices).
Lipotrim is banned in the US.

Sport are you going to send me some, LOL! just kidding!

I have an appointment tommorow with a acupunturist. I was researching on it last night and one study showed the the normal woman has a 20-25% chance of getting pregnant each month. A woman with PCOS has a 10-15% chance of getting pregnant each month.

A woman with PCOS that does acupuncture has a 66% chance of getting pregnant each month.

That just amazed me and sent me reaching for the phone this morning. I can't imagine those odds being any better.

Lay Lay

I wish you every luck with trying to concieve. I have PCOS and was told by my GP and a naturepath(spelling?) that I most prob would never have kids my dd is 14 and 1/2 months old and I am 6.5 weeks off having baby number 2 (which is a boy).

I always believed no matter what they told me that one day I would have a baby, so I didnt stress about it I just let nature take its course. Then all of a sudden I was pregnant. So what I am saying is dont forcus to much on it tell the universe (or whoever you believe in) that it is in their hands and if it is ment to be it will happen when you least expect it. I'm not saying dont try the actupuncture etc but just try and put it at the back of your mind and dont think about it every second (really hard to do I know how you feel I use to cry every month for hours and hours). It will happen when the time is right and if it is ment to be.

Sending you love luck and positive thoughts for the contraception

good luck
Love Angie
