View Full Version : RAW VS. SAD Labor and Delivery

Hi all!

I had our seventh baby this weekend. I was very high raw for the pregnancy, meaning, I had a meal every now and again that was cooked. The pregnancy was the best I ever had. I was very active right up until the night before I delivered. Because of a prior c-section, I had to deliver in a hospital.

I had six hours of labor and think it could have been cut in half if I had a midwife to help me turn the baby face down. I was dilated to a 5 when I went in, the first time ever that I went into labor by myself. By the time I was at a 10 I was really tired. They gave me some Demerol in my IV. The difference between this delivery and my SAD ones is that I had to have Demerol 6 times during delivery in the past, this time only once to relax me enough to keep pushing. It took 45 minutes of pushing. UGH.

SAD: long labors (13-48 hours), 4-6 doses of narcotics for pain, problems like breech and turning, lower apgar scores, poor latching after delivery, jaundice, my weight gain between 25-60 pounds, colicky babies (not all), had to be induced with pitocin to keep contractions going and make them strong enough.

RAW: 6 hours (still think it would have been three with a midwife), 1 dose of painkiller, apgar score was a 9-9, baby latched right on the breast after delivery like she had a manual, no jaundice after 3 days, my weight gain was only 21 pounds, happy baby, no pitocin, contractions did what "normal" women's do, got progressively stronger and closer together.

All in all I would definately reccommend raw pregnancy to everyone. My husband said that he has never seen me so calm during a delivery. He is still SAD but attributes this to my being raw. I can't wait to report how much better and faster my recovery goes!

Take care... STAY RAW! Love to all, Sami

Sounds like this is also your first pregnancy where you were not induced? (You mentioned it's the first time you have gone into labour by yourself). That makes a big difference re: length of time and amount of pain, also.

Congrats on your new baby!

Congratulations Sami, I am so glad that it went well for you....and that it is over!!! ;)

So, did you have a boy or a girl? How many girls do you now have and how many boys?

This is our fourth girl, so we have three boys. All the kids wanted to come over to see me. Husband brought them over in shifts... when it was the 16 year old's turn, he came in, "hi mom" and then smiled at the baby, smiled at me, and said, "okay, there is a dance tonight, Love ya, gotta go now." LOL I love that he is growing up and the man he is becoming. What an enormous blessing children are.
