So I went to A Middle Eastern Store today I bought some RAW, live still on the stem DATES. Never had them , never seen them, before.

Different tast, but good. Different terxture than any fruit I ever eat. Firm like a necatarine but kinda chalky like plaintain, maybe, i think.

i don't know. Hubby was surpised.

Bought a good size Batch od Medjools too. Plan on making RP's Brownies tonight.

Can you get organic in the Middle Eastern stores?

Got them Fresh in TN, didn't note the name on the shipment crate/box...assumed they were transported on a refridgerated truck. I'll find out this week when I'm back on that side of town.

After going to a few workshops conducted/hosted by the IOIA (Independent Organic Inspectors Association)/ ATTRA ( Nat'l Sustainable Agriculture Info Svc.), I don't get to hung up on Organic. I opt for it when I can but it's not the first criteria of my purchases. I'm doing going to decipher raw from toasted, roasted, freeze dried, pasteurized etc.....

Ok so here are some pics....

The dates are the round green fruits
The beige dolop is cashew butter made fresh tonight for hubby to place on his apple tommorow. The small bowls are the toddlers breakfast. I'll snip a few pieces of wheat grass for tommorow orange and bannana smoothie.

those are unripe. if you wait a little bit longer, they will ripen on the stem and be sweet and delish.

When I was a teenager, I lived in the Middle East and used to LOVE these!! *droolz* I also used to take rocks and throw them at the dates high up then scramble to pick up the ones that fell... the date tree is SO like a living pinata hehe.

you can buy online (I used to get cases from Ebay) from date sellers in Cali... they pick them the same day and send them... really really inexpensive compared to buying at a store, too. I need to do this soon, too. I never thought to ask them to send the crunchy, slightly immature ones... hmm... going to dig out the email of my seller asap :)
