My dad and I took a field trip to Wegman's and Whole Foods today! Let's see if I can remember all that I bought (all organic of course!):
apples
oranges
peaches
nectarines
cantaloupe
honeydew
pineapple
red bell peppers
carrots
tomatoes (red and yellow)
blueberries
raspberries
fennel
green onion
red leaf lettuce
butternut lettuce
collard greens
red kale
beets
beet greens
swiss chard
raddishes
parsnip
turnip
mustard greens
bok choy
celery
I'm excited! I'm set for a while! I can have more than 5 foods ::smiles big::
I also bought some raw items, but wanted to just make sure!
Kombu seaweed
Alaria Wakame seaweed
Dulse seaweed
Nori seaweed
The nori said it was "untoasted" but didn't saw raw so...? They all say they're hand harvested and laid out to sun dry and then pacakaged. So I assume they're ok.
They had raw cashews (not really raw most likely), raw almonds, raw sunflower seeds, and other raw items. I found they had raw pumpkin seeds!! I think I CAN eat those haha. Umm, are raw pumpkin seeds supposed to be green? I'm just making sure! I think roasted ones turn white, correct?
Let's just say we spent A LOT of money because we bought a lot of stuff for my mom that was packaged!
P.S. any recipies (salads, juices, or soups) that can be made out of any of these items?

Raw pumpkin seeds are generally green when you buy them in the store because they are shelled. When you take them staight out of a pumpkin, they are white because they still have the outer shell on. You can eat the white part. If you every get a pumpkin, save the seeds and put them in you dehydrator with some spices on them. They're delicious. But anyhow, the green raw pumpkin seeds are fine.

I could live in a Whole Foods store. It's like a museum. I have it right down the street from me. I don't know if that's a good thing since every time I go I spend way too much.

Yea, it was about an hour away without traffic. With traffic it's 90 minutes or so. I just had a small bite of each seaweed and I'm reacting to it! Not sure which one so I'll have to elliminate them from my system and try a small bite of only one! My face is SO red and hot right now!
They're buidling one 30 min. away from me and it'll be the largest in the area, but it doesn't open until next summer...a month before I leave!

Awesome. We only have Wild Oats here in Salt Lake City, and then another locally owned Good Earth, but its really far away. We are supposed to get a Whole Foods here within the next couple of years or so! I can't wait! I hear they are one of the best large companies in the nation. Very ethical and very good to their employees. :)

There's one near my work in Ann Arbor that I try to go to when I can. I have an hour commute, so I refuse to drive out there JUST to go grocery shopping. The closest to my home is about 45 mins.
This Thursday I'll be going out to Ann Arbor for a couple workshops, and I have a couple hours of free time inbetween them, so I'll be going to Whole Foods and stocking up.

The nearest Whole Foods is in Jericho, NY..which is nearly 16 miles from where I live (Brentwood, NY). I'm planning on going there sometime before the end of the year. Since I don't drive, it'll cost me to get there...but well worth it.

It might just be the seaweed. I'm allergic to shellfish, I get red, puffy and nauseous. One bite of seaweed and I react the same way. One of my friends(dietician) said it may be the iodine in both that I react to. ????? don't know if that is true but be very careful, only take a small bite.

Yea, someone else mentioned the iodine, but i didn't know it would cause a reaction like this? I started feeling so icky and nauseous as well...it's getting better now because I had an orange and downed a lot of water!
