I remember maybe a month or two ago, a woman posted a thread here saying that her and her small child kept getting "food poisoning". If I remember correctly, she said it kept happening when they would eat sprouts. She was wondering why it was happening. I think this E. coli outbreak is probably your answer.
On the MSN homepage, there is a lot of coverage on the current E. coli problem. You can click on a link in the main article that says "what you need to know about E. coli". A box comes up that tells little facts about it, and one thing it says is that E. coli is commonly found in, among other things, raw sprouts and lettuce.
So what can be done here? I feel like this is a stupid question, but is it possible to do the lemon/salt washes on some of our produce and kill whatever bacteria are on them? Or is that more just for kililng pesticides?
