Hi All'
I was just told l have a low ferritin level although l am not anemic. I've heard that Chorella can raise iron levels. I was told to either eat meat (NOT) or at least soy products. Can anyone help me find a raw food or supplement to increase my ferritin levels?

Algaes of all kinds are good as well as tons of green leafy veggies, green juice, and wheatgrass juice. Major on the greens.

I fail to see how soy would do it, although I've been told that protein of all kinds can help. So can vitamin C because it helps increase the absorption of iron. But the bigger concern for me would be why this happened. You want to make sure that you don't have some sort of internal bleeding or something else that needs to be addressed.

I have donated blood for about 35 years now. I'm always borderline when it comes to iron. Sometimes it's high enough to donate and other times it wasn't. Of those 35 years 31 I was a meat eater. I've been meat free for 4+ years now and my iron acts the same way. Some times I can donate and sometimes I can't. So meat didn't seem to make a difference for me.
I also had my ferritin tested, which was very low at the time I had it done.
I don't know why my iron is always low, but I figure it must be normal for me as I feel fine. I also have very low cholesterol (total 104). I'm 52 and seem quite healthy (my body is still repairing my thyroid). So, so far being borderline iron deficient hasn't seem to been a problem for me.
I can't tell you what I do differently when my iron is higher or when it drops. Boy I wasn't much help, was I. Just wanted to share my experience.
Helen, I'm the same way and so is one of my sisters and my mom. At one point we concluded that low-ish iron levels are our "normal." Don't know what else to do other than not worry about it. :)
