What's there to do

Who can I meet
Where must I EAT?

This is of course after I take my obligatory trip to Targets and Pier 1 to get dorm stuff for my FROSH daughter who will be attending UCLA!!!

GO BRUINS

Well, gosh, there's just SO much to do. Where will you be exactly?

There are 13 raw food restaurant locations in Southern California (in addition to another opening later this month and Cafe Gratitude drifting down from San Francisco soon), so there are plenty of places to eat. A handful of excellent places to buy raw food supplies that most people have to order over the internet. I've provided lists here before when members came out ... and met up with a few ... so, if you'd like, feel free to email me.

But ... if you're wanting to expand beyond the eating, there are raw food and health events, but you may be interested in the beach, mountains, desert, museums ... ??

I'll be staying at a Hotel near the airport and frequenting the Westwood area, where UCLA is located.

I'll check meetup.com for group activities..

I know about a few ofthe restaurant I just hear that driving in CA is horrible. One hotel rep told me to take any distance I need to travel and multiply it by 2.5 in order to determin how long it would take in minutes to get there. So i probably won't go any further than long Beach or Santa Monica. I'll have to mapquest the restaurant.

The plan is to shop a bit to get my daughter dor room together and then have a litttle mother to "grown" daughter bonding time. She is the oldest of 5 children and this is the first time since she was 4years old that we have been alone together for more than 12 hours.

I probably need to just immerse myself in what she wants to do and squeezin a RAW restaurant and an agreed excursion to the beach.

I'll be around on the 24th. Maybe some of us can get together for brunch or lunch on Sunday. I'm sure RT can organize it. :D

That would be RT's job since she knows every restaurant and everything there is about the raw community ~ what's open, what's closed, who's doig what, etc.

Or we can pot luck on the beach or in the park.

Whole Foods is probably your best bet.

I'll be back from my conference Sat. sometime so the evening is a possibility.
We just went to Redondo last night for Melissa's grand opening. The place was packed!!! Not sure if Bo wants to drive down there again or not. You "should" make it a for sure visit. Not that far from the airport.

You missed Leaf Cuisine up in Santa Monica; Rawvolution (I think it is) and Juliano's as well.

Well, let us know what you're planning on doing and if Bo's around ~ seems like Saturday evening is your best bet since you'll not be eating during the day, ya?

If your email's open, I'll send you my cell and phone number.

If you don't mind me jumping in, perhaps I can help you, too.

The best places to buy crackers and such in Los Angeles are Erewohn (West L.A.), the Euphoria part of Euphora Loves Rawvolution (Santa Monica), and Coopertunity. In Orange County, it would be Mother's Market. Also, Rod at Leaf Cuisine sells bags of his own as does Ursula at Good Mood Food Cafe.

The list you cut and pasted is, unfortunately, not up to date, and covers the entire state, so . . .

Here are the raw restaurants in Southern California and their websites --

Au Lac in Fountain Valley -- the BEST by far & worth the drive!!! (most of the local raw restaurant owners and raw gurus eat there when they're in town)
www.aulac.com (http://www.aulac.com/)

Leaf Cuisine in Culver City and Sherman Oaks (raw and organic, affordable)
www.leafcuisine.com (http://www.leafcuisine.com/)

Jade Cafe in Silverlake (spa cuisine, pricey but good)
www.jadecafe.org (http://www.jadecafe.org/)

Euphoria Loves Rawvolution (deli style - the Big Matt is #1 - and there is an amazing variety of raw staples in the store section - from every raw cracker on the market to rounds of cacao butter.)
http://rawvolution.com/store.html

GoodMoodFood Cafe in Huntington Beach (mostly raw)
http://goodmoodfood.com (http://goodmoodfood.com/)

Taste of the Goddess in West Hollywood
http://tasteofthegoddess.com (http://tasteofthegoddess.com/)

Cilantro Live! in San Diego and Carlsbad
http://cilantrolive.com (http://cilantrolive.com/)

Naked Apples in Laguna Beach (deli take-out & patio)
www.nakedapples.com (http://www.nakedapples.com/)

Juliano's Raw in Santa Monica
www.rawplanet.com

Terra Bella in Redondo Beach
www.terrabellacafe.com

Neshama in Encinitas

Have a great time exploring!! All are open after dark, so I'm thinking you could dine then. There are a handful of these restaurants that I go to a LOT -- others I rarely if ever dine at. If you want some private recommendations, just drop me an email!

Have a wonderful time with your daughter!

OH! I guess I WAS invited to join this discussion, after all. (It always helps to read the back posts when one has been on "vacation" from the board for a while, I guess. LOL!!)

I'd love to get together with you while you're in town. You may enjoy meeting some of my raw friends -- PATH sure did when he was here -- so, if you're up for it, drop me a line!!

Sorry we couldn't hook up

maybe next time I can put a bitmore planning into things.

I made it to LEAF during the day, I wasn't impressed and since I was fasting I didn't bother to order any takeout.

I did however get some flax crackers and kale cracker to go. Oh yeh and some Cacao nibs. The crackers were great later that night so the trip to LEAF was worth it.

Life,

It was my pleasure. Bo came home at 6 and was whipped so we stayed home. We've only been together 2 years and much of that we spent apart not knowing when we'll be together because of immigration, conferences, etc. sooo, when we can be together and have a quiet evening at home, we do so.

Yuh, next time, no fasting time, eh??? :)

You enjoyed your time here yes? You got to see quite a bit of the coastal communities it seems. Sorry we couldn't hook up though.

Until next time...
