i just went through my first detox this weekend and am still feeling some of the remains, mostly in my mouth.
i have raw gums, canker sores, and weird swollen PAINFUL taste buds.
the health expert at whole foods said it was because since a lot of the detoxing went on in my stomach, it was expelled through my mouth, causing the mouth problems... he recomended probiotics and so ive been taking udos for two days, which should solve the problem..
good because this taste bud thing is making it hard to eat anything RAW OR cooked.
but my question is - why exactly would my mouth be affected by my stomach. i mean i know the body is a complete system, but i still dont get it. was it because acid from my stomach burned off the taste buds?

this may sound elementary but im new at raw and very very curious.

Well first of all in answer to the title: Detox is the process of your body letting go of and releasing pent up/collected toxins out through your bodily 'exit-ways'. Toxins leave mainly through these places: Colon, bladder Mouth, lungs, pores, uterus/vagina and sweat glands (underarms, groin, feet, hands, backs of knees, sternum, scalp, back, backside etc.)

All the discomfort comes from these toxins coming out from your innermost tissues to your outtermost tissues and then finally they are expelled as waste. Sweat, feces, urine, bad breath, body odor, open sores, yeast infections, menstruation etc. All of these substances are full of toxins, especially during a major detox. You shouldn't do anything to suppress the symptoms. Otherwise, you just push the toxins back in and your body will have to re-release them at a later time. No medications stop a problem, they just stop symptoms of the problem and symptoms are manifested by the illness trying to leave the body. Things like colds and fevers and infections are the body gearing up to release the sickness. You should never try to suppress it. The best things to do are fast, sleep and drink lots of water.

You said it has been hard to eat, that is because you shouldn't be eating! Your body is telling you to take a break and fast until it is done detoxing and then you can start fresh. The sores will go away in time and the major detox will end, but you don't need remedies, they will only slow the process. Fasting is the quickest and most effective way to release toxins. Along with drinking lots of pure water and resting. Dry body brushing and oil pulling also quickens the process.

Oh and the mouth is connected to the stomach because it is part of your digestive tract. Your entire digestive tract is totally interconnected and it begins at your lips. Did you know that you actually start to absorb food/water/whatever when it touches your lips? Even your teeth and tongue are part of your digestive system. You partially answered your own question when you commented on knowing that the whole human body is a connected system. You're right on. Anyway, stomach acid did not make your taste buds swollen. It was not external at all. You are detoxing all of the strong, concentrated exitotoxins from cooked food from inside your tongue, outward. It will go away on its own when it is time. Be patient.

Hope this helps you out...
