View Full Version : Green Smoothie Question

Hello! I have been following 811 since January of this year. Just recently I started eating/drinking green smoothies. I was having a hard time getting all of my greens without eating any overt fat, so it's easier for me to blend them in a smoothie. Anyway, I just started doing this last week. I've been having a green smoothie for breakfast and dinner. I'm noticing that my stomach has been a little bit upset since doing this. I'm thinking that it takes a little bit for the body to become accustomed to this change? Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance.

haven't had any issues. but what are you putting in your greenies?
i have learned not to mix the following........
ginger, beet, garlic, strong greens (mustard), or radish
any of the above need to be used INDIVIDUALLY ONLY
and in very very small amounts
celery and carrot are always good staples to add to smoothie
a typical one for me is apple, celery, carrot, 1 t of beet, and some parsley
also, like pear, parsley, spinach, carrot, sweet potato and little sliver of ginger
hope this helps

I've had to add more greens into my diet as well. I notice that this week was a bit rough for me detoxing-wise and I've been raw 9 months. But, today, I am fine after about a week of upping my greens.
I like spinach in my fruit smoothies...I don't even care about the food combining rules when I make them LOL.

Greens are not veggies .... so don't apply that food combining rule. You can mix fruits with greens with absolutely no problems.

Don't forget to chew your smoothies too!
the stuff you would be chewing needs that saliva to help break it down.
Funny to chew liquids but it's a must :)
Helps bloating and gas too

How is 811 for you? Do you feel well? Does it help with weight loss?

I was just listening to the Raw Vegan Radio podcast with Victoria Boutenko you should check it out, she had a lot of good info. She talked a lot about the acid in your stomach being at really low levels before you start consumin mass quantities of greens which make it really hard to digest. It sounds like that might be your problem which means that if you keep it up it will probably help.
Maybe try adding something acidic like lemon to your smoothies will help digest.
Her website has some recipies too, rawfamily.com

Thank you for your ideas everybody! I just got Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko, maybe there will be some information in there.
Brianna - I love 811! I don't like to prepare foods at all, so I chose to follow it. I have lost a lot of weight (from 140 to 108). If you have any more questions feel free to ask!
