What is the best/easiest way to pit dates?

I pay $5 per pound for so-so dates, $9 a pound for really good dates. What's the rate where you are, Codajess?

Well a full 11 lb box of medjools (with pits) are $45. I bought them by the pound for $4.25 a lb. at the same place.

I love dates! Especially medjool! I pull them apart with my fingers as well. Or I just start eating it and spit out the pit. :) It sounds like you are getting a pretty good deal! :)

I just pop them in my mouth and spit out the pits.

For recipes, I use a sharp knife though.
