My response to a thread on food you now like that used to be something you wouldn't touch got me thinking on why I don't really eat okra. (Don't know what to do with it.)
I thought it would be a fun thread for anyone to post a raw recipe that uses okra as either a main ingredient or is incorporated.

Alien spore pods? ha ha. I love them but I don't buy them. Even the organic ones are too tough. Either grow your own or go to farmers market for fresh young tender ones. I heard they are full of potassium. I'm a mono eater but I suppose one could make their own raw soup with it (am forgetting the name of the traditional soup it is in here) With blended tomatoes and some light chili spice and 7 kinds of greens lightly added in - an end of summer harvest soup with a little bit of corn and everything else.

hahahah!
I have never tried raw okra. Tried it years ago cooked and it was just the slimiest, ickiest stuff I ever had! It didn't even occur to me to consider it raw. One of these days I'll get some and give it a whirl. Is it still in season?

I assume it still is because we just picked up some at our farm this past weekend. Trust me, raw isn't slimey! I HATED it cooked.

I love them raw. You have to buy small ones and eat them very fast before they get slimy. Hope you'll enjoy them. THey are very healthy, according to David Wolfe.

Thank you for the replys. I vaguely remember reading somewhere of someone making a raw soup using okra, but cannot seem to find. Am open to trying them in various ways, though.
Keep the suggestions coming!

Glad to see the responses. Raw Gumbo sounds awsome! If anyone comes up with a recipe with quantities I'll give it a try.
