View Full Version : Foods you wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, that you now enjoy eating

I'm curious what kind of fruits and veggies you can now eat since going raw, that you would not eat before.

I used to despise tomatoes. Now I don't mind them, so much. I still would prefer to not eat one by itself, but in a salad, and if it's a good quality tomato, I quite like them.

Especially tomatoes, fresh basil, a drizzle of grape seed oil and garlic on top of a flax cracker.

Also I was never too hot on mangoes, but I LOVE them now.

I'm starting to warm up to papayas, before I didn't like the musky flavor of them.

Most greens I had trouble eating, as they had a strong flavor to me. I couldn't eat much more than romaine, but now I actually prefer the darker and baby spring greens over romaine.

What kind of foods have you warmed up to?

Onions..if I even THOUGHT something had onions in it before I wouldn't eat it.

avocados. I used to hate them when I was little. Well I still hate the Florida ones, but I love the little ones.

Umm, okra. I think that's it. There are raw foods I don't like now though and some I never liked and probably never will.

Not a lot really. I can't, simply can't eat broccoli or cauliflower cooked. They just gag me. I *can* eat them raw but I still don't like very much them plus I try to avoid them anyway being that they're goitrogenic. I do like raw corn. Didn't really dislike cooked corn but didn't like it either.

I know many people who can't stand cooked carrots but will eat them raw. I too prefer them raw but did eat them cooked on occasion.

1) ALMONDS!!! I hated every nut that wasn't a peanut. Now, I find it odd if I go through an entire day without having some almonds or almond milk!

2) AVOCADO! I didn't like these before going raw. Now, I also eat avocado everyday. In fact, I'm eating guacamole right now!

Yummmmmmmm...

Well lets see.....raw onions, cucumbers, avocados, collards, kale, cashews, leeks, mangos, garlic, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds, dates, raisons and the list goes on. Boy look at what I was missing out on. I luv em all now!

Coconut and celery!! Though I still don't like them by themselves, I love them in soups, desserts, etc. Hated them in anything before. Pineapple & mango, I can now have in a smoothie or dessert. Before they needed to be seriously disguised.

I recently discovered how much I love real cherries and raspberries. Never knew how yummy they taste raw & organic. I thought I didn't even like them at all.

I was just thinking about this today...Red bell peppers & bananas. Couldn't stand to eat them, cooked or raw. Now I eat them every day. Sometimes the red pepper doesn't even make it as far as the recipe. :)

Tomatoes and Celery. I wouldn't touch either EVER. I tried and tried to no avail, and then one day-- voila, I loved both.

gosh, good question.

mangos
cucumbers
tomatoes
onions
greens (of all kinds)
turnips
hot peppers
bell peppers
radishes
squash
plums
peaches
pears
apple pears
blueberries
black berries
apples
kiwi
strawberries
cherries
olive oil
miso
nama shoyu
dates
raisins
mushrooms
pretty much everything I eat now. LOL

now that I think about it, some things I would eat cooked, like saute'd mushrooms, but mostly the only veggies/fruits I ate was ice berg lettuce and oranges, before I went vegetarian, so there is hope. LOL

Dates for sure. I can't live without them now. I never really cared for Papaya until I got Alissa's book. Now I have Banana & Papaya pudding regularly and everyone in my family LOVES it. ~kelley~ ;)

Always gravitated toward vegetables and adore fruit, but one thing I did not grow up with and honestly don't know what to do with is okra. In SAD days loved it in gumbo and was prepping it one time to deep fry but the slimy factor put me off. That is about the only item I can think of that isn't really liked. I think I'll start a "give me a reason to like okra" thread. Haha

I can't really think of anything I didn't like -- I was never much of a picky eater.

The darker strong greens like kale, collards, chard, and parsley. But putting them in a smoothie I eat them daily now! I would never have guessed I would ever eat so many dark leafy greens!

Great answers - wow!

Good golly Miss RP I don't think your list is long enough there LOL :p

Also I never really "tasted" fruit before. Now I can appreciate a crisp fresh apple in the prime of its season, a perfectly juicy peach (this has been the best peach season ever for Colorado), a lucious melon.

I don't think I really appreciated fruit at its best before.

Figs!! I wouldn't have eaten them for anything. Now I love them.

I disliked cooked carrots and parsnips but like them now although it's a taxture thing as well as a matter of taste. Cooked they were too sweet. Now I prefer them grated or spiral sliced.

I don't want to get into the honey debate but I didn't like that before either. I wonder if it was because it was heat treated and now my honey is raw???

I'm on the wagon with mushrooms and avocadoes! But I've never really liked cooked veggies, it just seemed wrong! Carrots especially! I almost felt sorry for the orange, sweet and crisp things, down in boiled water to turn all limp and loose most it's juicy flavour.. :p

Fly forever free..

Hmm, maybe we should start another thread with this subject! I think I did a few months ago, but I don't think I got many responses!

Exactly like me. :-) I eat whole tomatoes, but only produced by myself.
