I threw in too much Spinach and YUCK!!!! But since I'm not one to waste............I drank it anyway. :p Gross, Gross, Gross HELP ME PLEASE! :o

All you have to do is add more fruit. You might need to start out with a higher fruit to greens ratio until you get more adjusted to the taste...or, perhaps try a different green, like kale.
I love banana, blueberry (or strawberry or both) and spinach. You can also try adding in an apple or pear (or both). OH...and adding pineapple to them REALLY makes them taste yummy!
You just gotta play around with combinations because remember, what one person likes, you may NOT like. So, again, if you just have an issue with the flavor of the greens being too overpowering, blend more fruit into it until it tastes like something you can drink without gagging! :p

Pineapple has a lot of sugar, so it balances well. Do you use honey? I put it in my smoothies to make them sweeter.

Yes I sometimes use agave nectar or honey to sweeten my smoothies, or maybe even apple juice instead of water.

I make a mean mango/banana/spinach green smoothie. :) I drink these babies every day, twice a day most days. Don't quit, keep trying! Once you get the ratio down, they are addictive.

Imagine, Im with you. I never seem to get as much flavor with any other fruits besides bananas. why? because I love to load up on greens, bananas always do the trick. However today... * hold on to your knockers* I added KIWI with my reg banana and kale. It was great. WOW, shocking, I know!

Do any of you use any greens other than spinach and kale? Just curious.
You will get used to the taste of the greens. Just give it time. When I first had a green smoothie I was so grossed out. Now I make one every morning and I love the green taste. So refreshing. I don't add any sweetner..maybe a little fruit though. But now I'm at the point where I could pass on fruit even and just blend greens with water and find it absolutley delicious!

I sometimes use parsley, rainbow chard and I've used collards (a little too strong for my tastes). II tried romaine lettuce before and it made my smoothie bitter...I was surprised by this as I always thought of lettuce being milder than most greens.
I've not tried any of the weeds like dandeliion or stinging nettles, etc. yet. Sometimes I'm scared to try other greens based on how they'll taste. So, I don't worry too much about it...just try to get a few different kinds in and not ONE kind everytime.

Has anyone ever used turnip greens? I have used dandelion greens and collards and I thought they were good. I have heard negatives about mustard greens, but what about turnip greens? Anyone tried it?

I got Green for Life by victoria boutenko she has a list of Greens and Mustard greens is on there. I use 60 % fruit 40% veggies from her book and drink 32ozs a day.
I personally use a variety depending whats growing the best. Basically we see what is going on with the garden and fill in with celery and cabbage from the store if necessary.

Go to www.mawintheraw.blogspot.com. Do a search for her green drink made with young coconut. Absolutely terrific!
I use the meat of one young coconut and about 1/2 the water, 2 bananas and an entire head of kale and ice. The coconut meat adds a really nice texture and this is a very filling dinner smoothie!
I also love strawberry, pineapple, spinach with a small handfull of mint! really refreshing!

About two cups of watermelon and 2-3 cups of baby spinach with 2 or more cups of water.
Yum!

I make Green Smoothies everyday. I haven't had a bad one yet!! Go to my journal entries for a few ideas! I pretty much just throw anything/everything in the Vitamix that I can find in the fridge!! :D
(keep in mind that I make a large quantity of smoothies for my mom, dad and I everyday!)
*Careful when using the "tops" of the carrots, celery..etc. They are VERY nutritious, but with nutrition comes BITTER!! Just throw in a very small handful in each blender full!*
Just keep trying new things..and add more fruit in the beginning to get the taste of it!

i throw everything it it!!
kale, parsley, sweet potato or carrot, celery
apple or pear.............
nut milk
couple dates
1/2 banana
and sometimes the juice (from the juicer ) from a cactus!!
that is very good. BUT DO NOT USE THE PULP FROM CACTUS...........
lots of little thorns you can't see, and you certainly don't want these in your system
so only JUICE THE CACTUS!! AND DON'T TOUCH IT WITH BEAR HANDS!!
I LEARNED THE HARD WAY -- OW!!
