i have just been looking at buying an excalibur dehydrator, i cannot belive the difference in price between the US and the UK. The price in the US on Alissas site for a 5 tray one is 179.99 USD = 96.4054 GBP
whereas on a UK site the cheapest price I can find is £189 GBP = 352.588 USD

Now I was wondering, do these things ship very well? Also would I encounter any other problems, eg extra charges from customs etc? Has anyone in the Uk bought one from the US?

I really dont know whether to get a round stockli one for £99 GBP from the UK instead? I know the excalibur is superior as you dont have to rotate trays and you can remove trays etc.. but I am just thinking of the price. I wish raw was as popular in the UK as the US. Why do we always get stung with such high prices? sorry, just moaning...

Hi Sal,

The price is quite different outside the USA and quite normal to be so. There are extra changes involved in getting the units manufactured with a power supply different than in the USA, plus with shipping to the UK too (and import taxes). The price you're seeing is quite normal for overseas. Plus you would also get a warranty in the UK too.

Personally I've used both round and Excalibur. I now only use the Excalibur (have two actually) and just love them. You would be happy with your choice. If you're not totally sure see if you can pick up a cheap second hand round one to give it a try.

Cheers,
Sheryl

Im from the UK and faced the same dilema as you. I thought about buying from the US too!

After considering the various added charges plus the problems involved if the machine was faulty I decided to pay the uk price and move on!

I bought a nine tray excalibur. I can dehydrate lots of produce once a week or so.
It takes up a lot of counter space, (But so does the 5 tray), Its also quite noisy so for these reasons I dont keep it in my kitchen.

Its brilliant. I'm very happy with it.
