Got this from The Garden Diet book.

1/2 to 2/3 c nuts, I used walnuts and almonds, chopped in food processor
1-2 T raw honey
a dash of cinnamon

Use a fork to miix the chopped nuts with the honey and the cinnamon. That's it! I think it tastes just like baklava, one of my husband's favorite desserts. We both loved it!

Yummy......I'm gonna try this. Baklava was always one of my SAD once or twice a year pleasures.

If it's raw I can eat it more often. YEAH!!!!!

I'd add in some rose water and ground cloves, but that sounds wonderful!

But, after you mix it all up you eat it in what on what

Hmmm, I'm thinking how about using a veggie peeler with jicama for the pastry? Sounds like that could work.

I sort of got the first part with the nuts, honey etc. I am not sure how the jicama works in at all

It's that crunchy phyllo pastry, layers upon layers which nestles in between the nuts, honey and cinnamon. That is the key ingredient. Well, an important component at least!

Cardamom is also wonderful in baklava, and orange water. The filling is good sandwiched between dried apricot halves, or dried pear slices. I have tried thinly slicing and dehydrating jicama for baklava, but it didn't work out at all. Yuck.

You just eat it plain, I presume! ;)

I didn't think of dehydrating it. Did you ever try using it fresh?

No, I never thought of using jicama fresh as baklava pastry. Dried it turns out like leathery cardboard. Hmmmm. Perhaps if the jicama was soaked in some honey it would work fresh. Good idea!

That sounds delish! I will have to make this for my hubby. I use too make SAD Baklava before he came along and I was telling him about it a few months ago and he was wanting to try some. This would be great to make him and me both, hehe!

Gellis, What to eat it on....a spoon, of course! :) Actually my husband and I love it plain--as is, on a pretty little plate or bowl, no crust, etc. The wonderful thing is that from the idea of it, to tasting it in your mouth, is about 90 secs! LOL Great strategic recipe for those sweet cravings.

Honestly, when eating SAD baklava, the phyllo was never my favorite part, the nuts, honey and spices were.

Frozenme, yeah more often! Try every day, sometimes twice! LOL

Lanaq, love you too, girlie! xxoo

It does sound good. I'm thinking that maybe it would be possible to make a very thin and crisp cracker, perhaps with a dash of agave in it, and use that for layering? It would certainly have to be very thin to get it light enough...

Think I'm going to have a play with this...

So, I just made three batches (small, but THREE none the less) with pistachios and sprouted sunflower seeds, third with pine nuts added. Didn't even process them, just stirred it up and ate on apple rounds cut on a mandoline. HOLY CRAP! Sooo Good! I am already thinking of my next batch ;).

THANK YOU!!
