Replacement for leeks

Do you think I can replace 1 c. onion for 1 c. leeks? I have lots of onions and no leeks and I have a new recipe I want to try.

I would think onions chopped finely would work, leeks are generally considered to have a finer flavor than the common onion so you want to add a bit less onion. Not saying that yours are common onions by any means :p

I find that onions are stronger than leeks, so I would use less onion than leek.

I think that onions are stronger and may overwhealm the dish so play safe and go a little on the low side.
