Does anyone know what the lightest tasting olive oil is? I can't stand the taste of olives to begin with so olive oil is a close second for me. Even using it in recipes, I can still taste it.
If there's nothing really light, can I substitute another kind of oil like grape seed or something? (like for salad dressing recipes and stuff)

I'm right there with you. When I made the raw falafel today all I could taste was the dang olive oil.

i know what you mean...i love olives...but sometimes olive oil just tastes bad...i think it depends what you combine it with...i find that it tastes bad with flax, but good in salads with tomatoes and parsley and lemon juice....yeah...lemon juice helps...i think it could also be that it's rancid...olive oil goes rancid very easily...coconut oil is better...but has a very distinct taste also...try it and see if you like it :)
WWW- I never liked the taste of olive oil either until I started eating raw and using cold pressed oil oils. I was going to suggest Udo's oil (info posted early today in the shopping list thread). It's very nutty and kinda thick tasting. You already don't like olive oil, so I'm not sure if this would be an option for you. I usually mix it with cold pressed oils and spices for salad dressing and marinades.

you can use cold-pressed flax oil if not dehydrating--or raw sesame oil if you are . Just a thought!

What are you using the olive oil in? Unfortunately, the more refined the oil, the lighter the taste, so you are getting away from the most natural source that way.
I think the best way is to avoid it completely unless it's hidden in some kind of recipe.
It's an overt fat anyway, imagine 16 grams of fat per tablespoon, that's a lot of fat.

Well, the most recent thing I used it in was Alissa's Ceasar dressing. I liked the dressing but couldn't stand the taste of the olive oil in it. There's no disguising it for me! I know it wasn't rancid because it's a fairly new bottle and I always keep it in the fridge.

Hi,
I love olive oil, but only the really super expensive really RAW kind, so that is me.
However, there are other cold pressed oils that are RAW that you can find, and the best one to use is coconut oil, it is very light.
You should NEVER keep oil in the fridge, except coconut oil.
Olive oil keeps best in a cool, not cold place in the dark, in a dark bottle, and should be used within 30 days of opening the bottle.
Coconut oil can be kept indefinitely, and when you choose to use it, melt it in a tub of warm water, it will liquify almost instantly, and will last in the fridge for years.
You can try some of the other RAW cold pressed oils on the market. Flax does funny things when it gets warm, like in the dehydrator. And all other oils unless specifically marked RAW, are not raw.
good luck,

I love olive oil. But looking at it from your perspective, if I hated it what would I do? I would probably look to substitute other oils (flaxseed oil or a nut oil). My wife likes to make dressings from cashews, do you like cashews? It makes a real creamy "ranch" dressing. I can get her recipe if you want to try it.
Peace.

Walking On Water,
Everyone has provided you excellent suggestions - as for grapeseed oil, yes, you can sub with that, I find wlanut oil is great, and as for preparing recipes to dehydrate or even in salad dressings - Sunflower Seed oil is fantastic, it is light and very good too.
I'd love to try your wife's ranch dressing Todd. If she wouldn't mind sharing.

For Carmel, yes, there are lots of grades of coconut oil. Just look for organic extra virgin, the RAW unproccessed ones. It is pretty yummy, but does taste of coconut.
Personally I love olive oil, but also use walnut oil. Udos bottles walnut oil, that requires refridgeration like flax, so it is really fresh. I love it, as I love walnuts. It gives a great taste if what you want is a nutty oil. It is actually a great moisturizer too. Low in vitE, so it won't make you break out like coconut and most other heavy oils. And it smells good too.
I also use avocados in place of oil in dressings. I will mash it to pieces and mix with a bit of lemon or vinegar and put that on a salad. I prefer that to oils as a dressing.

Yes Todd, I'd love your wife's ranch recipe! I love ranch, it's my favourite and I've haven't found a good raw ranch recipe yet. I think maybe I'll use my Vitamix to make it in, cuz' I know it makes things smoother.
Thanks ahead of time. :)
Wow, so many good ideas, thank you so much!

Thanks Cassy. So I take it it has to actually say RAW on the coconut oil or it will be roasted?
