I hear some people clean their water from the tap in a brita can,

do you know these?,or do you have another way to clean the water.

I drink mineral water,preferly.

But it's expensive... do you have the solution?

-You can do a number of things to purify your water. In my experience, water that has been put through reverse osmosis or distilled is quite pure. You can certainly buy water for about .25 a gallon from the water machines at most supermarkets / drug stores. I also like to 'suncharge' my water by leaving in in a clear glass bottle in the sun all day before I drink it.

-Just my experiences.

When I was younger and just starting out on my own I did use the Brita. Now I've got one that connects to the tap. From my understanding the reverse osmosis is best. There's quite a bit of controversy over distilled. Personally, it would not be my choice.

As David said, you can purchase it from a store and also refill at many grocery stores AND, depending on where you are there are now actual water stores. Have no idea what they charge for water.

I do like the idea of sun-charging it. I wonder if the bowl of mint out on the balcony would mind changing places with a bottle of water. :)

I've never heard of sun-charging, are you using water from the pipes at home?
How do you do it and does it make a difference?
Thanks, sounds cheaper than the water we get from the health food store, distilled.

I had a brita pitcher in my dorm last year and it was leaving black specks in my water from the filter! I changed it and everything...it just got nasty. I buy bottled since it's so much easier!

It is my opinion that suncharging can go a long way to purify and vivify water - especially water that has been 'flattened' by boiling or distilling. Still I like my water to be clean going into the bottle - so I use purified or distilled water before suncharging. I prefer the water from the machines....or freshly distilled (especially if I am fasting).

I have a britta and a disteller. I did fit an under the counter filter but never changed so went back to manual.
I generally use the distelled water for drinking and the britta water for washing fruit and greens.

A Real distiller? How much does it cost and how big is it and where do you get it?

And what are the effects of suncharging water?

It is made by a company called ECOWATER. It is about 14inches by 9inches and 15 inches high. It is not piped to the mains but is a double container system. You fill up one container and it collects in the other.
I do not recall how much it cost but I bought it online from UK Juicers.

For those of you with Reverse Osmosis - what brands and features do you recommend?

It is my understanding that with reverse osmosis you use up 6 gallons of water for every one usuable so it is not earth friendly.
Can anyone contradict this.

Hi all,

I use a water purfication unit that I love. Benefits include:

1. Combines the technologies of sediment filtration (pre-filter), reverse osmosis, and activated carbon (post-filter) to provide clean, clear, great-tasting water for drinking

2. Outperforms any single method of filtration

3. Efficient and economical

4. Convenient countertop "cabinet" holds 6.5 L of filtered water

5. Approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF): the only third-party certifier of drinking water treatment units accredited by the American National Standards Institute

Anyway, if anyone wants the specs on where I got it and more about it, just e-mail me at lisamadam@gmail.com and I'll find out the info for you.

Lisa :)

Revvell, What kind of controversy has there been over Distilled water?? Just curious as I just started to purchase it instead of Spring Water by the Gallon for home drinking water.

Thanks,
Adrian

We have a well and had the water tested when we moved here. The health department says the water is not safe. I boiled the water until I could get a distiller. I bought a WaterWise to distill my water and love it. I put a gallon of water in the boiler and turn it on, approximately 4 hours later I have a gallon of purified/distilled water in the carafe.

It shuts off automatically so I usually put one on when I go to bed and another when I get up. It sets comfortably on top of a cabinet that is 12 inches deep and 22 inches wide.

I am not Revell and I would like to hear what she has to say on the topic of distilled water so I will just mention that years ago I heard that it can cause heart problems because it can leach nutrients from your body.

Well water and state safe drinking standards? I lived in a cabin once and the state said the well water was unsafe. We put 10 gallons of bleach down it and suddenly the state said it was "safe". HMMmmmm.

Has anyone heard of LifeSource water system? When I bought my house... it came with the system already in place.. just have to change the filters every 6 months or more. I am not sure if I trust it to remove all of the impurities.. so I still buy bottled. I am actually hoping someone on this board has experience with it... because I would like to stop buying bottled water. I spend like $80 a month for my bottled water service. :(

I was listening to an audio article by Brian Clements last night and he spoke of some chemical that has been added to the water in the US since the time of Bush Senior and now they know that it is highly dangerous but can do nothing about it.
He says that it is in the water table so even effects private wells so he only recomends distilled water.
