I just bought 2 passionfruits at the store, I've never tried them before, not fresh anyhow. So how do I know if they are ripe?

--- I cut one open and it was extremely runny inside, liquidy, smelled wonderful, but tasted slightly sour/acidic? And the seeds are SO crunchy!

I decided just to blend them in a peach-blackberry-banana pudding because I don't really like the taste as is... maybe it wasn't quite ripe

They are so little, and cost $1.50 each. Is this an average price? I guess since they are tropical and need to be shipped thousands of miles to get to me

--- I think it would make a beautiful sauce ontop a cheezecake or something, because the fragrance and colour, and texture.. yeah, I will have to try that!

I like to just eat them from the skin using a spoon. I love the taste that way.
I have tried blending them just on their own because I thought that I would get more nutritional benefit from the seeds if they were blended but it was not nice and was too runny.
Over here they cost 65C each at the moment and things are usually cheaper in the US so I think that you have paid too much for yours.

If they're ripe they are really sweet and delicious!
If they're not, they're sour, and range from nice to urghhhhhhh!
I don't chew the seeds, just suck out and swallow.
Usually the more wrinkly the skin is, the less sour.
All the very sour revolting ones I've had have had completely smooth, firm skins.

Thanks! I will definitely look for wrinkly ones next time, and it's good to know that perhaps they were unripe and that's why they tasted sort of sour... I will try again, though perhaps I will look elsewhere and try to find them cheaper! Yikes. 65 cents to $1.50 is a BIG difference :(
