I'm wondering if this will encourage or discourage you. IF weight loss is what you are looking for AND it doesn't happen as it has for them, then what? Also, you might wish to ask how long it took for them to eliminate this weight as well and are they 100% or...?

Better health and weight loss go hand in hand. Focus on the health and the weight loss will happen. Getting stuck in numbers is a frustrating game.

This is a fact. Better to ask what health gains folk have received.

Weight loss was just a part of it. I lost it within 6 months and I was 100% raw. I also lowered my blood pressure down back to normal, felt much happier and lighter and had SO much energy!

I lost 12lbs in 15 days of being 100% raw (from size 10 to size 6). Ate fruits and veggies only, with nothing dehydrated as well.
My IBS is now a thing of the past.
I no longer have awful periods either.
I have more energy.
My eyeballs are whiter than they've ever been.

I fell off track when I vacationed in Tennessee for two weeks in the middle of August. I'm presently struggling to get back to 100% raw again, and hope that it clears up my skin and cures me of slight lymphedema.

Take care,
~Deenasmiles~

Let's see..
Three years ago, I weighed 205 lbs. I went on a "diet" of cooked vegetarian food and through careful weighing, measuring and controlling of every single bite, I lost 50 lbs in one year.

Then I got stuck. I didn't want to weigh and measure everything anymore. I didn't want to feel like I was on a "diet" forever. I stumbled around in this state for a year and struggled to maintain my loss.

I heard about Raw a year ago and tried to go to 100%, but couldn't even get through one day. I put it on a shelf, but kept reading and coming to the raw websites. I just felt DRAWN to the idea of Raw.

In March of this year, I was reading Carlene Jone's website and saw that she was opening a Raw Food Bootcamp for folks with a small amount of weight to lose. At 157, this was me! I jumped at the chance. In that first month of bootcamp, I lost 15 lbs. Then I had some slips and struggled to get back to 100% Raw. (I also chose to not continue with bootcamp).

Eleven days ago, my thinking became really clear on the matter and I decided to give 100% of my energy to staying 100% Raw. Bingo!

This time around, I am staying off the scale. I think it was the fear of getting below a certain weight that messed me up last time. I trust that my weight will go to where it is suppossed to be whether I am watching the scale or not, lol!

Raw Food Bootcamp can be a great resource for getting to 100% Raw. Carlene is an insightful coach. One of the things I found the most helpful was the accountability. Before you broke Raw, you had to try to contact Carlene or one of the moderators FIRST. Of course, if you went to the trouble to contact anyone, you sort of lost the urge to blow it, ya know? My main problem with it is that it's a low-fat program, no recipes. I need to feel like I can eat WHATEVER I want in whatever quantity right now. But that's just me.

Alicat, just keep trying. If you fall down, get up again. It doesn't matter how many times you fall. It only matters when you chose to not get back up. Keep posting and reading and do NOT allow yourself to despair. I remember someone used to have a quote at the end of their journal that said something about "Don't quit before the Miracle". I like that and find that it is VERY true!

Best regards,
emily

It has been less than a month for me and I have lost inches and about 10 pounds. :)

That is with no exercise by the way.

It also includes 10 days on the master cleanse, where I really didn't lose wt., mostly inches off my BIG BELLY!! Ha Ha, which I am motivated to continue to eat right, so my GUT doesn't come back.

Hang in there. It is tough sometimes, but you can do it!! ;)

I lost over 50 pounds. I got off of 3 high blood pressure medications, anxiety medication, depression meds, potassium pills, meds for vertigo, antibiotics for chronic ear infections, dizziness meds, one a day aspirins, pills for hormones and more. I was basically a walking drugstore advertisement, and this did not even begin to cover the supplements that I took, hoping somehow it would all help!

I have HUGE energy levels now, and I don't even think of taking supplements except for an occasional b-12 if at all. I think last time I counted I was taking almost 30 different supplements?

I noticed that my skin cleared up, my brain fogginess went away, blood pressure went down, no more hypoglycemia!... I actually feel better than I ever have! My hormone levels actually are starting to normalize! I had 2 menstrual cycles in 3 years, and now I am having them every month like clockwork!

Raw is awesome!

around 30 pounds
100 percent raw, although I ate some sundried raisins, which may not be not raw-if they were dried in direct sun, you can imagine how much temperatures rise there, now I am avoiding dried fruit and use it just for party food like tortes or raw candies.
But my weight was lost in the first couple of months and now it is very stable(5'6, 120).

I didn´t start raw for the weight loss (had a normal, slender posture already), but it just happened and must say that it pleasantly surprised me: 5 kilos in a couple of weeks after starting 100% raw. It just fell off, didn´t have to do anything. It´s stable now, perhaps I even gained a little again, but not much. My ´new body´ feels very comfortable and natural. I feel gooooooood. :)

i am just starting the raw food course. i am doing this mostly to loose weight. my question is "what about decaf coffee". i realize it is hot, not sure if that qualifies as cooked.
thanks

The August challenge last month was my first time doing raw 100% and I love 23 pounds. Since January of this year, I have lost a total of 57 pounds. I eat my fruits and veggies as natural as possible. I haven't had the opportunity to try some of the more elaborate goodies that I read about. I don't have a dehydrator and I cannot afford it. I wore a belt yesterday for the first time in a long time, didn't like the way they looked on my tummy area. I went down 2 sizes in clothing (found that out Sunday) I am not bloated any more. The raw journey is very rewarding.

Yes, decaf is considered "cooked". It is actually poison for your body.

Here. I just pulled this off the web:

The decaffeination process itself is not always innocuous. There are three common decaffeination methods: the use of one of two organic solvents, either methylene chloride or ethyl acetate; water extraction known as the Swiss water process or European water process; and supercritical carbon dioxide. Eighty percent of decaffeinated coffee is processed with solvents. The health effects of these solvents as found in decaffeinated coffee are not well known, but studies suggest that methylene chloride (dichloromethane) is shown to be carcinogenic, and the National Cancer Institute’s list of chemicals labels it as a possible human carcinogen. In the decaffeination process, the solvents are removed from the coffee beans, but residues have still been found in decaffeinated coffee and tea. When water and carbon dioxide are used to decaffeinate coffee, a measurable residue is not left behind in the remaining beans, but high acidity and other phytochemicals found in coffee remain. Additionally, in the process of water extraction, unique flavor characteristics of coffees from different origins are blended and blurred water extraction due to the intermingling of the flavors from various types of beans in the water bath. Among the decaffeination methods, methylene chloride extraction retains the most flavor but leaves a dry taste in the mouth; both water extraction and carbon dioxide extraction blur the flavor of the beans and ethyl acetate adds a sweet fruit flavor. Additionally, inferior beans that may be old or moldy are often used for decaffeination because the process can remove off flavors and mask the age or condition of the beans.

It's just plain nasty stuff!  :(

Today just happens to be day 80 for me! Wow, time flies. When I thought this would be hard, I just made the decision to jump in and haven't looked back! So far:

12 kg (26.4 pounds) in 80 days (about 2 1/2 months)

This is on 100% raw (minus 2-3 planned - not from just giving in - cooked meals during the whole time). I am definitely exercising more as I was doing almost nothing unless you count housework and looking after my 3 young children, but I know I am not doing enough. The daily kid/house work doesn't count because I can tell the difference when I exercise. I know it would have been even more if I kept a regular exercise schedule. I keep track of my weight, diet, exercise, and health changes and I consistently lose quicker when I exercise more. Obvious, I know, but it helps to motivate when you see it in numbers. The food doesn't seem to be the problem for me to stick with, it is just a regular exercise program.

Everyone is different and you need to find out what works best for you. I highly recommend keeping track of your food, weight loss, exercise, and health changes to see what trends you find. This is how I discovered what makes me lose more slowly, that I don't feel as well when I eat too many nuts, and that I just simply love how greens affect me. I eat lots and lots of greens with smoothies and salads.

Good luck in your process and DON"T GIVE UP!!

90 lbs since July of 2005... still have 14 lbs to go to goal. 100% raw... with the exception of moments of temporary insanity (in other words, "gosh, I'm so hungry, I'm just going to have one bite of my kid's left-over veggie burger until I make myself something" ... fast forward three days and one empty fridge later... "Woa, what just happened??"). Fortunately those times happen rarely... maybe once every three months. I find eating out at raw food restaurants, eating packaged raw foods, and lots of nuts halts my weight loss at this time, although that wasn't the case in the beginning.

81 lbs since Jan. 1st, 06. I haven't been 100% raw the whole time as I like to have my cheats once every couple of weeks. But it's nothing major and it doesn't cause me to go on a binge or anything. Just a 1 meal thing and I'm back to eating raw. I can't claim any miraculous cures for myself as I wasn't ill like that before, but I do notice more energy and more desire to do things.

20 pounds in 2 1/2 months-last winter-but I kept it ALL off through a very difficult grueling schedule (we are talking 7 days a week work for the last 5 months) using High -Raw.

I intend to get back to 100% -as I would like to lose more & get my total Raw bliss back. I can feel the difference in High-Raw & 100%-it's like night & day-but high Raw kept me from gaining so I am happy. :)

I find that if I exercise & do 100% that I lose 2-3 pounds every week. I do not go by the low-fat scheme-but Alissa's approach-however I find myself going towards less dehydrated & nuts. Green smoothies have been my saving grace this summer to help me get through this grind.

Hope this helps. :D

It took me about four months to lose 22 lbs BUT I wasn't all raw by any means. In August I lost 7 lbs- and am now losing about 1-1/2lbs a week at least. My weight loss has accelerated with the addition of green smoothies every day. It's a miracle cause I dont excercise at ALL anymore!!!

100% raw, mostly simple fruit, three times a week a recipe (aprox)

78 pounds 6 months

no exercise, other than regular cleaning in my home and gardening (which I suppose is pretty strenuous, and constant about 3 hours each day)
no gym, however I do walk quite a bit, I park at the farthest place and walk in malls, stores, meetings etc.

I've lost 102lbs in eight months. I've also lost Clinical Depression, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Syndrome, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and rosecea.

I am and have been 100% low-fat vegan during all of that eight months.

My primary exercise is walking. I've gone from barely able to walk for 5 minutes to walking 11 miles as part of training to do a half marathon in November.
