I am wondering, as I am venturing more and more in dehydrating experiments, what is the proper way to measure sprouted grains?!? Do you measure before or after soaking and sprouting? This would lead to very different proportions!
Specifically, in Alissa's BBQ Chicken Fingers, does she measure the lentils before or sprouting. Ok, these aren't grains, but same concept! :o
Other recipes I want to try include sprouted buckwheat and such. Is there a general rule that one always uses, like always measure before sprouting or always measure after sprouting?
Thanks for the help!

Help, please, anyone?? :(
No really, I don't have any raw books yet (other than from Garden Diet and this isn't covered) and would like to know what the general rule is as I am pretty much 'winging it' for everything.
Thanks :)

Hi... The recipes that I've done measure the grains 'after' they are sprouted.

Wow, star1919....thanks for all the great info!! I am making my own raw book of info that I have been collecting and this is going in. I have looked up sprouting on the net, but the condensed list is making it easy for me. I was just curious about specifically measuring it out in recipes. Thanks for taking the time to give that info.

ok, so just to clarify here....
"soak" means you let them sit covered in water for that amount of time, without changing the water. then "sprout" means to empty out the water and let them sit in the jar, but rinsing often over that amount of time? do i have that right?

Yes, that's right... For most things, rinse 2-3 times a day during sprouting time...
I just wanted to mention, that usually you can tell by the way a recipe words things. Like "2 cups sprouted buckwheat" is measuring AFTER sprouting. But "2 cups buckwheat, sprouted" is measuring BEFORE sprouting. Do you see the difference? ;)
