Here's another dental thread!
Tooth decay and sensitivity are obviously a real downfall of being raw so
for those who have had their teeth improve on raw please share your 'secrets'. What do you brush with? How many times a day? What is your daily diet like? Do you include a lot of fruit, Nuts, Dehydrated etc.? What other things do you do to help your teeth?
This info would be so helpful for those who suffer from bad teeth since going raw.
Thanks! :)

My teeth have gotten better. I eat a wide varity of stuff the only constant is I have a BIG green smoothie almost every day. I'm not big on brushing or flossing. I brush once a day, sometimes twice if I feel the need. I floss again when I feel I need it. My tartar has gone way down and my gums don't feel loose like they used to and I don't have bleeding like I used to either. I use a very soft recyclable tooth brush and I wish I could remember what my toothpaste is called.. it is clay based though and is ayurvedic. I got it because it doesn't have a glycerine in it.

PS. The toothpaste is called Vicco

My tooth sensitivity has gone way down and the clean feeling has gone way up. I haven't been doing this long enough to credit anything.

Hi... I can't say my teeth have improved... but they are healthy and continue to be... maybe some of these things help as well...
*Once a week I brush my teeth with a mixture of salt and soda (that I mix in my hand) ... I follow that with a rinse of hydrogen peroxide (don't swallow) ... it is inexpensive and in a brown bottle that you can find in any grocery
*I've read that it is important to swish or rinse your mouth with water after you eat (if you can't brush) ... I usually do this
*Nightly I use an oral irrigator called Hydro Floss... it is different than other oral irrigators... this has a magnetic action... ionic that helps to remove plaque etc. I used it for about two years and am a real believer in the benefits... I bought it on Ebay... I would think that it can be found other places on the internet too... for me, it was well worth the cost... and then some... :D

I have went from 7 visible cavities to only 3 visible cavities in just over 4 months. I brush my teeth twice a day with water and baking soda.
I eat lots of fruit
some greens
some seeds
a little bit of nuts
a tad of dehydrated foods
That's It!

I got away from juicing and blending very quickly because I decided that to keep my teeth healthy I needed so support their root system by chewing more food. My teeth felt very good but I could feel them needing to chew stuff. Their nutrients come in through the roots so I don't want them to waste away due to lack of exercise.

I was 100% raw for 6 months, used a natural bristle brush, toothsoap instead of glycerin based stuff, & I healed a chipped tooth I had all my life! It just grew right back! I had chipped my front tooth very noticably by diving in the shallow end of a pool as a kid! It was a very pleasent surprise when all the sudden it was healed! I was eating mostly greens & fats, not much fruit but some.

Wow! Where did you buy natural bristlew toothbrush and toothsoap? Although my guess is that greens and low fruit consumption did the trick! I am starting that now instead of 80/10/10!

Why do you think this? Is there something you believe is deficient in the Raw diet that you would get in a SAD diet that somehow affects your dental health?
Personally, I have reversed gingivitis with raw and with careful dental care. I brush and floss. I still use regular toothpaste.
Vglove, I wonder what you think the Raw diet lacks that is needed for healthy teeth and gums?

One more question - would you measure your morning saliva ph? I would like to see if that ph theory is right- in your case you should have very alkaline saliva. measure it befre you drink or eat - best the first thing in the morning. Please.

Well, I don't think it is just something raw diet lacks,it is also that toxins get dumped in the tissues at higher rate than normal and that's why we might become for a while become even more acidic. Acidic saliva doesn't remineralize teeth how it should. It looks that the only way to avoid this - eat tons of greens, green smoothies, green juices, brush and floss even more careful than ever, and limit very sweet fruit, at least the first year or so. That's my opinion, but it might be there is more to it.

No secrets :) :
* LOTS of juicy fruit.
* Ripe fruit only.
* Simple meals.
* Eating only foods that are appealing to my senses.
* No spices, very little nuts or dried fruit, near to zero dehydrated foods.
* Brushing 1-2 times a day, very gently.
* Flossing after meals.
The improvement in the gums and teeth amazing!
