I just get so incredibly sad when I see posts in a livejournal community "ed_recovery" asking how they can etiher prevent osteoperosis or help maintain the level or reverse it, which they don't think is possible.

Everyone responds with dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheese, Ensure drinks, ect.

I just want to say "dairy prodcuts are a direct contributor to osteoperosis. You should eat fruits, veggies, and green leafy foods. Cut out the dairy...." and go on and on, but i KNOW that it would be deleted by the mods. It'll be "restricting" and "removing" a food category. I understand that with an anorexic just eating again is a huge accomplishment, but ahhh, just makes me sad :( In fact I kind of triggered and LJ friend by having a friendly discussion about it and I feel bad about that (she told me it was triggering so i stopped. I was not lecturing about it in any way! Just mentioned one fact).

Do I just sit back and watch them do this? I havn't said anything. Actually I did once. I didn't say that milk is bad, but I said "try adding broccoli and green leafy foods." yea, that received no comment.

Anyway, I guess I was just ranting a bit lol. No need for a comment. I just know that you all will understand where I'm coming from, hopefully!
I guess I'm just annoyed at the dairy industry about this.

I think this came up because I was looking at those articles another member posted from targetnews or something. I just wish i could help the world! Then I see the other side and think "they're just doing it to themselves (causing the diseases and ailments)." YES I KNOW THAT'S RUDE SO PLEASE DON'T YELL AT ME FOR IT BECAUSE I DO KNOW that it's not their fault...they just don't know any better nor have they done the research.

Many on here (if not all) have had dairy at least once in their lives, but through research they have removed it or are in the process of doing so, which is great!

You can't help the world, but you can help one person at a time. Just saying what you said about brocolli and leafy greens might have planted a thought in someone. Later they might talk to someone else about this, or read something, or research something and that thought may develop. Sometimes you can say (and help) alot by not saying much. Just like the saying "a little bit of sugar makes the medicine go down" Sometimes just a little but of information is more tolerable then trying to swallow the whole idea of this lifestyle.

You could recomend that they read the book 'The China Study'.. he specifically addresses ostoporosis in it. I don't know alot about ED though so I don't know if it would be a trigger for someone or not. It doesn't say to eat raw, but it does say to eat a 'whole foods, plant based diet'. Then goes on to show what even a moderate change in diet, ie limited animal products, can do let alone what eliminating can do. It's been an eye opener to me!

That book has been mentioned so many times. I really must add it to my book list. Who is the author.

I thought Hu was the new leader of China, not the author of the China Study ;)

Dreamraw there are ways to be a beacon to them without being deleted.

You can tell them that on your OWN journey to RECOVERY you have removed dairy because you found it caused you a lot of problems (list said problems) you can also say that you've researched at notmilk.com - or wherever - and found that the calcium in plant foods is actually MORE useable than in dairy, and the high amount of protein in dairy is actually detrimental to bones.

The China study is another great source to use, you can quote it or suggest someone check it out from their Library. Even better though, tell how much information is in there that speaks volumes about how plant food nutrients are so much more useable by the body.

You see, it doesn't always have to be about "telling others" what to do, more like sharing what works for you and WHY. That is the important part. And also sharing how well you are doing in recovery. That had you included such foods along the journey it would have made you sicker. You've gained weight, bone mass, whatever instances you can use to show that it works and is scientific.

I can't see how providing the info in that manner would cause a problem.

I totally agree with Sharon. Sharing your story, rather then say milk is bad for you, eat this will go soooo much further in helping others.

Hehe, which project? I have so many!

Thanks everyone. One day I'll try that approach when I get the courage. I appreciate the advice and suggestions!
