My sisters request was for me to make a black punch or something to eat that was black.
My sister in law is having a birthday and my sister wanted me to make her something in black for her party.
I told her, Oh I dont know.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I could make something with blueberries, or blackberries. But the blackberries are so expensive.

wow, that is tough one. I think there is a black Mulberry and possibly a boysenbeey, but not sure. There is also so called black tomatoes, but they aren't really black. There is black beans, but some people get very sick eating them raw.
You could make a dish with seaweed. That always gets a dark color.

What about something with black tahini in it? How does it taste? I have never had it.

Blackberries? Papaya seeds? Can you use food coloring? You can make almost anything black with that - not sure what it is made of though...

I was a cake decorator for a number of years and we used a paste dye to make things black but I want to tell you..
DON'T USE IT!
It is bitter and staining and UNHEALTHY

I could resonably conclude blackberries. I may have to make a pie with blackberries.
Papaya seeds they dont taste too good. I have tried them in the past.
Any pie suggestions?

If you eat cocoa, you could make RP's brownies and put some extra cocoa in so it is very dark. Won't be exactly black but then no food in nature is really black.

Alissa's bluebery pie is a purpley blue-black colour. Figs are at the peak of their season here and are fantasic. I also have a chunk of RP's brownie in the freezer at the moment and as Juliebove said, with a little too much cocoa (add some water to make it mix) it's pretty much black.

I found some black sesame seeds and I am going to attempt to make some tahini and make a black hummus.
I will also pick up some black olives and make some tapanade.
Well that is the game plan for now.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Even with cooked the only truly black natural thing I can think of is squid ink which they use in some pasta dishes... obviously I'm not recommending it!! *grin* This is a tough one. I can only think go dark purple or brown, and something dehydrated would concentrate the colour and give you a darker one.
Good luck!
