Hi everyone!

I am wondering if any of you experience pre-menstrual craving. It is horrible...I will be doing well..and then I am overwhelmed by cravings...where it seems that HEAVEN ( I am only exaggerating a litle :( ) is in some food...and I am not talking greens here.. I end up craving (and eating) :o the most vile non-nutritive junk....

The struggle can last up to a couple of weeks... then I cleanse out during my period..usually accompanied by a migraine..and then the cycle begins again..I have a couple of good weeks or about 11 or 12 days..then the cravings begin again.

HELP!!!!

Yes, same here. Fortunately I still had some of my cherry nut fudge lying around. Unfortunately, I don't have enough cacao to make more! :(

Try stuffing a walnut inside a date. That helps me sometimes!

Elizabeth, what has helped me, is too always have something for me to eat. I like to have some sweet things, savory dishes (like kale salads), some salty things like sauerkraut, and those type of things already made up in the refrigerator. That way, I can just walk on over there and grab them. When at work, I always take more than I need to eat in my lunchbox ( a big "Little Playmate" by igoo). That way I can pretty much eat something at anytime. Also, quite a few times, avocadoes have helped me get through some rough times.

good luck, Tracy

yep, yep , yep Elizabeth, me too. I am combatting those cravings right now with raw treats like chocolate coconut macaroons and halvah. It's always chocolate and bready stuff I crave and the cycle you describe is exactly right. You have to find something raw to satisfy that and eventually, on raw, you will purify and not crave like that anymore. I know menstruation is a time of detox, and I know when your body is detoxing things, it pushes them out into the blood stream, you can then crave those things strongly.

What do you crave? Maybe it is a nutrient your body is crying out for during that time also!
Hope we helped a teensy bit!
Warmly~

Raw coconut (the mature type) and figs really seemed to help me thru PMS cravings. Nowadays when I get a craving, sometimes I will be coherent enough to ask myself, is this a need? Or is it a want...As long as I am being honest with myself. it works. If not, I will chain eat dried fruit. Seems to work better than chocolate for me. :)

Cassy. :)

I want a #3 with a coke please....to go. super size it! lol.

That's been in my mind today....I'm totally there too. It'susually the day before and the first day of my period. I just want to eat bad greasy hamburgers from fast food places. so weird.

I wonder what it is my body is aching for ?

I ended up overeating on raw today - anything to give me the feeling of fullness.

Not sure the answer.
I was told before to make some tea - or drink a glass of water...but when your mind is going so loudly - this doesn't always help.

I do feel that the dates are a good choice too.

Me too, I eat a lot of nuts during that period.

Sharon,
Can you please share with us the cherry nut fudge recipe?
Thank you

Hi Poppy,

It is in the recipe section. I posted around the first week or so in January.

It is to live for!

Thank you very much for all of your suggestions and moral support. Just knowing that others go through (or have gone through) the same thing on their journey to health somehow makes it easier to bear.

Hi Sharon :D ...I will have to try the fudge next month..I am beginning a liquid fast today...in the hopes that I can cleanse out some of the craving-induced junk I have ingested in the past week or two. Next month I will be ready with some craving-busting RAW yummies.

Hi Tracy :D That is so crucial...making sure that you carry things with you to work. I am in school..and on Tuesdays I am out from about 7:30 a.m. to about 11:00 p.m. Those are the days that usually bring me down, due in large part to my own lack of preparation. And yes...having a wide variety of Raw "tastes" that is a great idea. Sometimes I think I will try to go without much salt or many sweets..etc. but then a craving hits..and I do not have the healthy versions..so I go for the junk. (my roommate has SAD food in the fridge..

Hi Carmel :D ... Thank you for your advice..and your support. I know it is true..that if I can stick it out for a few cycles..then the cravings will diminish or disappear (my fondest hope ) I bought some flax oil and some liquid minerals.. and am taking them while I am on my liquid fast...I had wondered whether I have some type of a mineral deficiency. I do crave unmitigated junk..meat..coke..greasy fried things... I know intellectually it is POISON and NOT FOOD!!!! I just "forget" sometimes...

Hi Cassy :D I like that..sometimes you will be coherent enough to ask yourself if it is a need.... I am able to do that most of the time..except when I am pre-menstrual. I think that part of it is that I do not keep track of my cycles. They are regular..but i just forget abouty it..until I am hit with cravings..and then the breast swelling...that is a dead giveaway  I think that just keeping track for me would go a long way to knowing it was coming..and knowing what exactly those craving signify.

Hi Catherine LOL McD's... You hit the nail right on the head.... I wish it was only the day before and day after for me...but maybe if I am diligent I will be there soon..... I know that feeling this way for about two weeks is just too much.

Hi Poppy and RawGranny..thanks for the suggestions....nutty "chocolates" do soung good

Thanks to you all for your help. I am starting a liquid fast today...and am hoping to not get a debilitating migraine..like the week I started back on Raw  I am going to keep track of my cycles...so I know what is coming and will be prepared with a variety of yummy, crave-busting RAW foods. I think I am going to start getting massages sometimes too....I get muscular tension in the neck and shoulders..

Thanks again...

Blessings to you all.
