View Full Version : Why I went raw

As I am contemplating the recent posts that others and I myself have made that has caused quite a stir on this board. I feel that first of all I owe everyone an appology. I in no way meant to cause any problems by stating I like fish.

I get the impression most people here have gone raw by choice, either to cure some medical problem or weight or moral or whatever.

A few days back I listed my reasons for going raw mainly a friend who bet me. While that was true that is not the complete truth.

The main reason is desperation. I am 38 years old and either will not be around to see my 40's or will be on feeding tubes. I have had a condition all my life that causes me to throw up about 70% of everything I eat that is cooked in anyway or eaten with cooked food. Even though I get sick I still managed to put on a lot of extra weight. Especially since almost all excercise has gone out the window as the years go by and the condition gets worse. It doesn't matter what it is, how it is cooked, I eat and get violently ill. There is no cure, my throat and stomach or tore up from this along with probably a lot more of my body that I don't even realize.

7 years ago when I bought my first vitamix I started getting relief, I could drink a smoothie and bigger part would stay down. At that time I was still using protein powders and such which seems to give me problems too.

In March of this year I found raw food through an friend. I figured what did I have to lose. So I tried it, it took almost a month before I stopped getting violently ill.

The most amazing things happened you all know them. Allergies, asthma, arthritis, headaches etc go away. Well, for me I had to try food, and for the first time that I can remember I ate cooked food and did not get sick. Of course this only lasted till my second cooked meal then illness returned.

Until 2 weeks or so ago I have been tettering on and off the fence so to speak. I really wanted to be normal. Then my friend offered me this bet and I thought, maybe since raw is the in thing to try right now if I gave it shot being healthy and weird wouldn't be so bad. No one would have to know I cannot eat cooked food they will just think its a fad or whatever.

I joined this board because, I thought that if I surrounded myself by people who were raw and vegan and I tried the recipes and all I would learn to fit in and maybe like the choices I need to make.

However, the only thing I have managed to do is piss everyone off. While, I will not leave this board unless asked. I will refrain from posting so as to prevent future blunders and again I am very sorry.

Gelis PLEASE understand that you are so very kindly welcome here.

I have been here long enough to know that because we guard our Rawness rather closely, sometimes we tend to be rather zealous.

Don't feel like you have to not post, we all need to remember our purpose here and new people come and go and we ALL have a right to our opions and thoughts. When we join we agree to abide by the guidelines and if your posts are not removed then you are not infringing on them and the way people respond can sometimes be a bit disconcerting.

I have found almost every person here a thoughtful, Kind, supportive, sypathetic soul and there is an odd time or day or mood that someone can get a bit overboard but like any good relationship, there is understanding and forgiveness.

I am really happy that you have found something that you can look forward to with Raw. Your medical condition must be a very difficult one and we would Love to help you stay raw and see you heal and thrive of Raw eating :)

Still ask questions as that is really the only way that you can find and do what you need for yourself, if anyone has an issue with what you say then I would just pop them on the ol ignore (thats what it is there for) and stick with those who brighten your day and give you the info you seek :)

Hang in there and again, WELCOME

Mel,

No matter what never feel sorry for me.

Even though my problem in and of itself is different from most it is still a problem like everyone else in the world faces on some levels.

Most people are on the verge or death or very difficult medical conditions and don't know it. I know what the cards hold and I also know how to win. The deck is stacked in my favor.

Thanks again

Very nicely said!! I was thinking that when I read your post earlier. You know what to do, and you are getting the motivation to do it! You WILL win!!!

And, as far as ticking people off, that is ALWAYS going to happen, because people are people, and no two will EVUH think exactly alike!!! As long as your heart is in the right place, I think you will be justttt fine : )...

Welcome, and cheers to your success!!

Lauri

Hi Gelis,

Thanks for sharing your story with us. I'm sure you will continue to improve your health with raw food. Please do continue to post and share more with us. We'd love to hear all voices. I hope this forum will give you the encouragement, support, and enjoyment that I have received in my raw journey. What I find that help me stay very motivated in this journey is looking at the food photos in the recipes section. They all look sooo delicious.
