I will never have access to raw water chestnuts where I live, so I am seeking some suggestions for a substitute.

I think jicama would be a great replacement. If you don't have access to that either, firm apple might work, depending on the recipe.

YEP, jicama for sure, they are the same texture, and you could cut them in any shape you wish, perfect!

Hi... Jicama is a great choice... Also, if you want to get the round shape of sliced water chestnuts... you could slice the jicama to desired thickness... then you could cut the round shapes with a minature round cookie cutter/garnishing cutter of about 1/2 inch...

If you don't have that... using the tip of a round apple corer might work well... to get the round shape

I used jicama instead of water chestnuts in my spinach dip. Noone knew the difference!!

Thank you! I was also thinking about kolrabi or even slices of parsnip.
