View Full Version : Anyone else become more sensitive?

Within the past few months of being raw I've made a huge discovery. To me it's just plain old annoying as heck, but I guess it's good at the same time?

First it was food allergies and sensitivies way back when. They became worse and more severe (Can't smell peanut dust - not that I purposely did that).

Then came more sensitivies and I had to drop out a food every day.

Now I HAVE to go organic (very very limited selection so i'm incredibly bored).

My nose smells things a mile away Ok, not that far away haha, but in the parking lot of groccery stores or restaurants far away from the entrance.

I can hear things from the other end of the house a floor away, and not through air vents

Chemical sensativities have become more severe, including hives and reactions to latex, nickle, and now gold that isn't at least 18K gets me green.

Make up that was "natural" makes my face even more red, which is what i was trying to conceal.

Toothpaste that is "natural" is making my mouth swell up.

Extreme sensitivity to any raw salt.

More sensitive emotionally...way more.

As I said, this gets annoying since it's all at once. I think "what CAN I have now?" kind of like how those that aren't raw ask "what CAN you eat?" haha. It's just my body falling apart to me and I think "this isn't far?" but in reality my body's trying its best to say waht is good for it or not.

What have YOU experienced?

dream...I think you are experiencing a cleansing. I have gone thru similar type things.

Odors drive from the section of the store where there is any meat or seafood.
I was in a parking lot the other day and the odor coming from a restaurant smelled horrid. My DH mentioned it smelled good, made him hungry..ugh !

I am senstive to so much, but thankfully most of things I do not eat now as they are not raw.

Stay as clean and natural as possible, eat close to nature and I think in a short time you will experience some release from this.

You may need to do an emotional detox too.

Yes I them you are going through a big cleanse too, years ago I had all that you described, but after a while raw it became more severe and then suddenly it was ALL gone. Now I am allergic to NO raw foods, no chemicals, no molds, no animals, no pollen, no grasses. Rejoice in your cleanse, brighter days are sure to come!

that is being at a rock and a hard place............

my suggestion even thought it may be detox, I would make sure your stomach is receiving healthy levels of bacteria and cleanse/rejuvenate the liver.

Hives, rashes and the like need cooling effects like cucumber juice or lemon water etc............

Ease your journey! ;)

Hi there,

I know the feeling. I can't walk down the cleaning
supplies aisle in the grocery store any longer without
feeling my throat start to close up. I'm also more sensitive
in general to noises and other stimuli since going raw.
Although this feels like more vulnerability, what we have to be
aware of and grateful for is that our body is now telling
us IMMEDIATELY when something is dangerous so that it
can PROTECT us by making us want to avoid exposure to
the offending substance, in this way we are actually
stronger. Try looking at it like that for awhile and
see if that helps.

All the best,

Audrey

Dream, how long have you been off dairy? I think this is why my sense of smell has become acute. While I've been off flesh and fish for years, I've always eaten a certain amount of dairy. Now that I'm off it, I feel so much less congested and plugged up and at the same time I can smell better, so I think it is related.

It is a bummer to try and shop at my local Wild Oats, because the fish and meat section is right at the end of the produce section and the other day, I audibly gasped at the smell. I now have to go back through the produce section to get to the rest of the store-lol

So maybe your ears and nose have become more open and this is allowing yourself to take in more smells and sounds bevause you were previously blocked?

Well that sensitive nose could be worth dollars - just where? I am not as sensitive as you yet but when I slip some SAD in my reaction can be frightening - getting stuffed up and hard to breathe. But I am getting more sensitive also and tolerating SAD body smells from others is getting difficult to maintain a polite veneer - I am afraid I will visibly gag. Ha Ha but seriously. Some of your sensitivity sounds related to that other medical problem that you have posted about before.

This weekend we went camping (again, in the same place) and I had an incident. Usually we have church in a church building, and there's a computer, with the hymnal on it, connected to a projector and a sound system. Several months ago we had church in one of the city parks, with me accompanying on my mandolin, and it was just beautiful. So this time I get a ride, and we arrive and set up tents. A screen is set up with a projector, connected to the computer (oops I just wrote "camputer" ;)) I bring my banjo nearby, wondering if someone's going to pick a song I don't know how to play. (I figured out "Lord, I lift your name on high" a couple of weeks ago and have been practicing it a lot.) Someone picks a song. Up starts the music, which is coming out of a speaker connected to a generator, which is also powering some powerful lights. I put the banjo down and go to the other side of the camp. "I wish all the tracks would disappear!" The computer continues playing music. I walk to the bathroom with my head in my hands and collapse in loud sobs. Some men come to see what's wrong, including one with a "sheriff" shirt. I tell them "Axe that computer!" The guy with the sheriff shirt tells me to go back to the tent. I tell him to tell the people to turn the computer off. It doesn't belong in this wild area. The computer keeps playing for at least another half hour, during which I ask someone "Don't you think it's sacrilege to set up the sound system in the wilderness?" It takes me until afternoon the next day to get over this.

The next evening the pastor calls an emergency gathering for an announcement. The ranger told him (or more likely told someone else; his English isn't that good) that we have to be quiet. His wife explained later that night that the park is a wildlife sanctuary, and that the generator was disturbing the deer. I felt the terror of the deer; no one else did, though some agreed that it was sacrilege.

That night I was half expecting the deer to come and thank me for delivering his message. He didn't. but if he had, he could have easily found me by smell.

I get some crazy ideas sometimes - like when the cruise ship(s) tilted for no known reason and people got injured - I had a crazy thought that the ocean creatures that are suffering our dead zones and other pollutants went to the very deep end of the ocean and called on the resources of a very large and ancient creature living in the deep, unknown to modern man. This creature was called apon to deliver a wake-up message to all of human-kind to try and save the planet and shaking up cruise ships was part of the attention getting activity. Yes, I don't wish to be associated with people and situations like you mention. Even in regular church one has to remember to bring ear plugs. I don't understand what is the point of going out into nature if you are not going to experience it. Nature is not coming into our homes trying to experience us!

unnatural face makeup only makes my skin look worse (uneven, dry and flakey). same with face wash, spot treatment, etc. cant use anything with salicylic acid anymore. cant use unnatural eye makeup or my eye itch and water like crazy.

any type of lotions with unnatural chemicals in them make my skin burn.

ive been using chanel perfume the past weekend during sorority recruitment and it has caused me to get all stuffed up (i usually use essential oils).

i cough/gag around air fresheners and whatnot when before i wouldnt even notice.

ive become REALLY REALLY sensitive to nuts when i eat more than 2 at a time (causing me to have to exclude recipes with fancy nut crusts and whatnot) and it makes me realize that maybe theyre in those "really freakin hard to open" shells for a reason.

i cant drink anything carbonated. no caronated water, no fermented raw tea...it all tears my stomach apart.

spices also tear my stomach apart now. i had literally 2 tablespoons of a salsa that incorporated jalapeno and cilantro and my stomach was crampy/churning for a good 30 minutes afterwards. onions, chives, garlic, and the like all seem to do the same to me now, too.

hmm..thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

but, like you said, i guess its for the best, eh?

The more pure my body is, the more sensetive I am to harmful things. Even going into the bookstore and looking at magazines bothers me because of the smell of the ink.

I can no longer get away with eating things I used to eat. After eating all raw, if I eat cooked food, I start to gain weight like crazy, whereas I never used to.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm allowing my body to become too pure. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes I wonder.

I wonder that too. I've been completely organic for 2 months, but by next August I'm heading down the college and they don't have organic salad bars and I'll be living on campus! I'm afraid of how my body will respond....really afraid! My friend suggested slowly reintroduce non organic items, but I REALLY don't like that idea. It's like telling someoen to reintroduce cooked lol. I'm glad my body isn't as tolerant, but I'm not glad that money and places aren't so accomodating!

My skin which has also been sensitive has become even more sensitive since going raw. I reccently switched from regular shampoo and conditioner to a natural bar of shampoo/conditioner. Then one day I used the regular stuff again and I broke out in hives all over my neck and shoulders.
It's like the more natural we go the less our bodies can tolerate anything that is not natural. For better or for worse.

Yup - am finishing old bottles of shampoo and my scalp sometimes itches so bad it feels like it is burning! Am still too stinky to wash with a fruit so I guess I will be buying shampoo at the health food store. Maybe I will try that Dr Bronners liquid soap that I used to get so many years ago. Do they still have that?

I am so glad I am not alone in this. I have been very sensitive to chemical smells & cheap perfumes/colognes, air freshners & so forth for the past 10 years. But since going raw, it has only intensified. The only thing that has gotten better is bright light. My eyes are no longer as sensitive.

I was wondering if I was just becoming neurotic or if it really is a part of the purifying process.

Yes, I am very sensitive too. Something that helped me enourmously was adding algae (I use Superbluegreen algae) as a daily food. Although I am still very sensitive, I am much stronger and it does not overwhelm me as it did many years ago. I still avoid the things I know aren't optimum whenever possible. Another thing you might look at is, do you have any silver mercury fillings in your mouth? When I had mine removed things were a lot better. By the way, I just turned 60 and have been raw since the seventies.

Wow Virginia, I am so glad to hear that you have been raw for so long! I have been wanting to know that there are many successful longtimers. I know many people who are sensitive to the cheap perfumes. One friend had a heart attack at work because of someone's perfume. At my previous place of employment a criminal investigation was initiated because someone sprayed an allergic co-workers' cubicle with perfume. These people were not raw. I have not been raw long enough to notice a change for me.
