...eat whatever whenever?
Both. Sometimes plan. Sometimes whatever whenever!
My usual day:
Green juice- kale, spinach, cucumber, beets, carrots, lemon, ginger, apple, celery, parsley
Green smoothie-bananas, berries, lots of greens, apple for sweetening
Large salad-mix of greens and variety of veggies with a raw dressing
Desserts-brownies or banana ice cream
I may throw in a few main dishes and pates from time to time and that is about it! I base my purchasing on what's on sale/in season.
There isn't a wrong or right way to eat raw. Just eat raw. JUST DO IT!!!!

I'm just beginning my raw journey. I have tried to go raw several times and just didn't make it so this morning I made up some meals plus a batch of RP's brownies with the recipe for the store bought frosting. For me since I am just beginning I feel like I need some things on hand so I don't turn to sad food.

Right now, whatever, whatever. :( It really makes it hard and I find I throw out (waste) food which wasn't used.
My season is beginning to slow since Summer is winding down and I really want to begin planning my meals so I can shop according to what's in season and recipes to fit.

I usually eat the same thing every day, but it's not planned (i'm just limited). So yes, whatever whenever. I tried to plan, but what if you plan a specific meal for friday and when Friday comes around you're not in the mood for that AT ALL, but there is no other food left in the house?
I wait until I'm hungry before I eat the first thing of the day. Then I eat ever 3hrs or so, to make up 4 meals per day.
I eat whatever I want (although I'm not totally raw yet), but I stick to the 'every 3hrs thing' because I have a screwed up relationship with food and I will still binge and obsess over food (raw or not) if there are no 'times and plans', so to speak. If I set a time, I can then forget about food until that time gets near. It's just the way my mind works.

I plan for a week's grocery shopping on Saturdays, but I don't stick to the exact meals on exact days of the meal calendar I make up. I just use that to generate a shopping list.
My particular trouble area is lunch boxes for work. I can't stand the lack of spontaneity if I make a lunch up for the next day. How do I know what I'll want at noon tomorrow? I've started mono-eating fruits to solve that. I have an insulated lunch bag, so what I do is put three each of two different types of fruit that look most appealing that morning. Then I bring home whatever I don't eat.
When lunch rolls around, I have two or three oranges or apples or whatever and I don't feel like I'm forcing myself to eat something. Also if I get hungry for a morning or afternoon snack, I have something raw right there with me. I keep a little orange peeler and wrapped knife in the bag with some extra napkins.
I tried packing salads, but that didn't last long. I'd cut tomorrow's lunch salad when making my dinner salad the night before. Then I didn't want it the next day. It's also a pain to have to take time to wash out the salad and dressing containers. I like mono-eating fruit much better. If I do want a salad, we have a salad bar in the university cafeteria, but it's got iceberg lettuce instead of the romaine I prefer. I'd bring my own dressing too (haven't eaten from their salad bar yet).

My experience:
-I plan my general eating goals and times (i.e., from dawn till dusk....and about every 2-3 hours! Ha! ha!).

I prepare food and keep it handy. I can make a Salad in a minute because all I have to do is empty vegetables out of containers into a bowl. But it takes me longer doing the prep work, washing and chopping and storing. But when I hit the door starvin', I am so happy I did it........

I shop 3 times a week and buy organic produce. My diet revolves around what is available.

I agree Lay-Lay. Whatever, whenever as long as it's raw. I do have to plan when I go out though because I know it's easy to get into trouble if you don't. I have two business lunches next week and I had been obsessing over how I am going to manage this because I have just stayed away from restaurants since going raw almost 2 months ago. To play it safe I have already planted in my head that I PLAN just to stick to a huge salad. As an alternative, if I'm lucky they will have a delicious fresh fruit salad which I would enjoy even more. One of the things I love about the raw lifestyle is that you don't always have to plan. Just be prepared ;) and go with the flow.

Definitely! I do that too. Grocery day is Saturday, then we chop everything but the romaine on Saturday afternoon into containers for the refrigerator. Before I started that, it took half an hour every time I cut salads for my husband and me. Now it's five minutes.

Yes, it takes so much time to prepare salads. This is a duh *slaps self on forehead* moment for me, I'm sure everyone else already does this, but I haven't been washing and choping on grocery day. I will now!
