Yea, it's not good for you so that's not my question haha. I'm SO addicted it's not even funny. I can only go about a day without it and I crave it SO much the second day. Anyway, I'm determined to make it past those cravings, no matter how hard it'll be. Those that have given up salt how much water weight have you lost and how quickly? I've gained 7 pounds in a week just from my salt use  My blood sodium levels are alreayd high without me consuming salt so I can't imagine the level now.
Anyway, has anyone weighed themselves the day they stopped salt and about a week or two later to see the difference or have you even measured yourself to see how much puffiness has dissipated? I'm just wondering if it would be an interesting thing to see.

I just recently gave up salt, and I lost weight by the next day, with a visible reduction in puffiness. I'm not sure how much weight (three pounds?) but certainly enough to see and feel.

Thanks. I'll weigh myself and see what happens.

Just throwing this out there...
But could you possibly be dehydrated
and sodium deficient?

My weight goes up about 5 pounds if I eat something salty (I usually don't have any salt). Within two days, my weight goes back to normal. Drinking tons of water helps the puffiness go away. For someone who eats salt regularly, it might take longer than that for the body to get rid of the excess sodium.
Honestly, your cravings for salt will probably only be bad for a few days. After that it becomes MUCH easier, and suddenly all your food will taste 10 times more flavorful. At least that's what I experienced.

No. I was putting salt on everything including celery. I can't wait until my taste buds heal from the salt use...maybe I won't eat as much lol.

Have you tried Himalayn salt? I have heard good things about it and you may not get any negative side effects.

Salt for me is just an invitation for a terrible migraine headache, I gave it up years ago. It was a hard addiction (flavor!) to give up but I will avoid those migraines in any way that I can! I can actually feel the swelling when it begins in my head, not fun! Water retention in my head, isn't that an awful thought, it swells my hands and feet terribly too. Guess I am just very sensitive to it.

I puff up immediately if I even have the tiniest bit of salt. We retain water when we have salt because our body is trying to dilute it because it is toxic to our systems. Try dehydrating some celery and tomatoes and grinding them up and using that for flavoring, I've heard that it is really effective.
All the best,

Any salt is bad. There is no good salt.
I suggest that you eat mostly fruits for a few days or any veg that you would not normally add salt to. That will be the easiest way to get over it.

I love the himalayn salt. I find it to be light and refreshing. I use lemon and the pink salt in lieu of dressing on my salad.
You need just a pinch and it does not adversely affect me like sea and regular salt used to. :D

I agree that all salt is bad. It may be "natural" as in not processed, but I don't think it's natural for the human body. I guess for me it's like any other addiction and is SO hard to get off! I'm kind of craving it today, but I won't use it. I may just have non-organic produce though ,but wash it with my veggie wash...I don't know. That's better than the salt I guess. I'm extremely salt sensative...I think it's my body's way of letting me know what is good or bad.
This is why i believe that consuming salt other then the natural salt already in foods is unhealthy for you:

Salt (http://)
i never feel good after eating it. And i'll usually gain 4 or more pounds the next day.

Oh my dreamrawalwz, I didn't think that anyone was as addicted to salt as I was. I would add salt to almost everything I ate before tasting and I would continue to add more and more as I ate my meal. I would sometimes even eat salt on my watermelon and canteloupe which in hindsight is totally ridiculous! Since eating raw my cravings for salt immediately, literally the very first day, disappeared. Do you think there is some sort of difficiency causing you to crave so much salt?

Hah I havn't gotten THAT Far with my salt (on cantaloupe), but I've had the thought lol, couldn't get brave enough.
Umm it's speculated I have adrenal fatigue and that causes salt and fat cravings. I shouldn't have a deficiency because my blood sodium levels are high to begin with when I wasn't having salt. No clue what it is.
Today is the morning of day two without salt. I stuck to organic last night which was good! I didn't weigh myself today. I'll do it on Saturday so I can see what the difference a week makes.
