Ooo can you use any type of grape leaf? or does it have to be a certian variety or age?
I have grapevines here at my house and it would be great if I could eat them :)

I didn't stop with the grape leaves but had to look at all of his other recipes. He's gearing up for website but not there yet. Wow, are they ever incredible. He's going to posting lasagna soon. Russell James is our raw chef in UK. Wow am I impressed with his creativity.
I have been hunting for what I call a dolmas recipe and now I have it. My neighbors have plenty of grape leaves so I surely am welcome to them as he has no use for these goodies, nor his grapes that he doesn't eat.
Thanks for sharing. Now I have to figure out how to preserve grape leaves for my winter eating dolmas desires (stuffed grape leaves).

You are welcome all; I have to try this. We have concord grape vines.
carolg: I wonder how long you could keep the grape leaves in the water/salt/lemon brine as Russell posts for preparation; in a glass jar in refridg. The SAD way was you can them and keep in jars on the shelf. Joz

WY,
I'm not sure how long just the grape leaves would stay in the refrigerator in the salt solution. I believe salt is the natural preservative here, but still. I would love to say months but not sure. I suppose we can keep adding salt if it loses it's crisp. I suppose we both have to try it but before I can do that I need to "borrow" grape leaves from my neighbors vines that he will never miss.

I don't recall who asked about kind of grape leaves to use. For me anything I can find since I don't have them in my yard is what I am aiming for.

oooh la la! thanks for posting!
I used to love cooked dolmades, so I'm going to play around with that with maybe some fresh dill instead, and maybe switch out some of that cauliflower for parsnips, as I really like the parsnip-pine-nut rice.
Yum!

Absolutely! I actually wasn't able to make them last night, but I'm going to definitely do them tonight! :) I'm a bit concerned about the mint though. It seems most grape leaves have dill in them, but I guess I'll see! :)

I think I put a little too much salt in them. They didn't taste anything like the dolmades that I like. I think I'll try my own recipe next time and use dill instead of mint and more lemon. I was kinda dissapointed with this one.
