View Full Version : Is Coconut butter supposed to have a strong coconut flavor?

My first container of coconut butter had a strong coconut flavor and I thought it was good. It was my first experience with raw coconut butter and I thought they were all the same.
I finished that container and just opened another one, a different brand.. tropical traditions. This coconut butter does not have any taste at all. Is there a difference in quality? Is one better than the other or is it just personal taste?

Thanks!!

Does it say raw? IMO it "should" definitely have a flavor/smell of coconut. If it doesn't that tells me it's been processed.

What brand did you get?

They are all different.

My health food store just put the NOW brand on sale for 5.99. So I bought a jar.

I figured I coudn't go wrong because if I didn't care for it taste or smell wise I could just use it externally as a body or hair application.

It has a stronger smell and heavier flavor than the kind Alissa sells, but it's not bad.

Since I don't use coconut oil like a supplement by the spoonful or in my smoothies, I will continue to use it for things like oiling a pan or hardening a sweet recipe, etc.

My first jar was from eatraw...definately raw. The one I have now is from Tropical Traditions..they say "raw" as well.

Is it expeller-pressed or organic-virgin? Tropical Traditions has both, expeller-pressed is steam deoderizied to make it bland tasting. The organic-virgin has the full flavor.

Hopefully you won't waste it. I've used coconut oil non-edibly from lubing the threads of a sticky honey jar to my skin and hair to other things that I would rather not mention here. ;)
