I tried GT's Synergy Kombucha Tea for the first time this month, and wow. I really liked it.
I bought a case (12 bottles) last week, and drank the whole thing in three days.
I am on an incredibly strict budget, but since I eat so much less when I have the tea (there are like 50 cal a bottle I think) that I figured I could afford it.
Yesterday, I ordered TWO cases, and have drunk about six bottles so far.
Then, I read today on rawfoodsupport.com some articles that kombucha is a dangerous drink, with a lot of alcohol, and that too much can even kill you.
Well, now I guess that I will throw the remaining case and a half away, and I'm out A LOT of money.
I could cry.
Even worse than the money, what have I done to my health by drinking so much kombucha!!!!!?????

Don't beat yourself up that now, but try calling the store and see if you can return the unopened bottles if you hadn't purchased online. You may need a receipt but maybe they will allow you an exchange for something else. Maybe even posting to craigslist.com and see if you can sell it local there for a small discount too.
I never had the stuff so not sure what it tastes like. Today I was in health food store, a woman bought this and I asked about it. She drinks 6 a week, costly, but feels alive she said. Give yourself a hug for new awareness!

bittersweet,
if Kombucha is harmful to your health and contains so much alcohol shouldn't there be a warning on the bottle?
Why don't you contact the manufacturer and find out more about the kombucha drink you bought. I assume that kombucha I produced myself might be different than your drink.
cheers,

What's supposedly dangerous about it? and it doesn't have that much alcohol. If it did, you'd be getting drunk.
Remember, a lot of people say a raw food diet isn't good for you, but are they correct??

You actually like that horrible stuff! I bought a bottle today, and nearly threw up when I tasted it. It tastes like vinagar, ugh

People have been drinking kombucha for hundreds, if not thousands of years with no ill affect!
I have never bought any packaged type of kombucha nor even seen it so I don't know if it's real kombucha...but it is very easy to make your own, you just need a starter kombucha mushroom, water, green or black tea, and sugar. You steep the tea in water, let it cool, add the sugar, then add the kombucha mushroom and let it sit for 1 to 2 weeks and you have real kombucha. It will taste a lot like apple cider.
You can get the mushrooms here: http://www.happyherbalist.com/kombucha.htm
or do a search...the mushrooms split and soon you have 2 mushrooms which you can give one to a friend, or use as a fertilizer, or...??
But it is real kombucha which is imo much better than anything you can buy.
edit: If you are worried about the sugar..do not be. The kombucha eats the sugar, you won't be drinking sweet tea!!

Kombucha is great, you should talk to Kombuchachic, she makes her own. My sister makes her own, too, and so far nothing but goodness! :) So don't throw those out, and if there is any alcohol in them, it's minimal enough they don't need to restrict the sale to 21 and older!
Drink up!

On the bottle it says 1% alcohol occouring from fermentation. That is not enough to do anything. Kombucha is a raw beverage and there is nothing wrong with it. I drink it almost every day. I may be wrong, but that is how I see it. :) Where did you get your info?
