What's with the drug company type ads in some of the threads. Today it seems most of them are some sort of joke.

It's how they get you to read them. Alissa's working on doing what it takes to eliminate them. I wish her luck on that. The jokes make the post seem legit ~ at first. Last one was kinda funny though. lol

Yeah, I've seen a few porn threads on here. Spam and junk stuff is so annoying. As if they don't drown us in it enough through email.... now they have to come on here.

Hi All, good question,

Well, Alissa has her web guy working on a way to allow new people in without the spam, porn, drugs, etc, but it is a challenge.

So, what we all can do is to report any post that is the first post (if there is any question about it), you can see the number of post on the top right hand corner of the post itself,

IF that post seems like a challenge, it may be a joke, which gets you to read it, but what ever you do, please don't click on any links in these posts, until you know for sure if it is a real person with real information or not.

So, just report them, and one of us, Carmel, Me--Rawpriestess or Rawkinlocs will do our best to delete as quickly as possible.

We've actually been doing pretty good as so many of you report them immediately to us, and we can get them off pretty quickly.

But please don't be discouraged, as we are working hard -- and so is Alissa, to end this.

We really appreciate your patience with this, and truly appreciate every one of you that takes the time to report these posts.

The way to report a post, is to to go the upper right hand corner of the post, and there is a little red triangle, with an exclamation point in it, just click on that, you can type in a brief message to let us know if it is spam or what.

Sometimes you may be reporting something other than spam, maybe a bad word, or a rude comment to you, or something like that, so make sure to let us know WHY you are reporting the post. as this really helps us.

Sometimes you may report a post and we don't take it out, that's because we are reviewing it, and whether or not is is okay to stay here, sometimes you may see that we simply close the thread, that is because the information in that thread is relevant, but maybe it has gotten out of hand, or people are getting fiesty in that thread, so we keep the info up, but we close the thread.

other times you may see a thread moved to a different forum, because it was in the incorrect place.

please note, that we aren't keeping score here, of how many times you report a post, or we have to remove or move a post, these things happen all the time, and is no reflection on you, or anyone when this happens.

and please remember, we are human, and can make mistakes--I know---heaven forbid, but I have actually made a mistake, -- now and again, so I'm sure others have too.

If you have any questions about your thread being deleted or moved, please just email us, and we'll be happy to explain why this was done.

Thank you all for your understanding and patience while we all work through this, and keep our wonderful board on the topic at hand, eating glorious raw delicious foods.

Ok - I know this is probably here somewhere - but I don't see it...
What is the process to report one of these posts?

The spams I've seen usually appear between 9 and 10 UTC, which is between 5 and 6 my time, so if I wake up early enough I see them and report them.

Can you block the IP address of whoever's doing this? I know you can at least ban the user, because people have been banned at LHC.

There is a triangle on the upper right side of the thread with a red thingy in it.
Click on that.
Edit. It is a red triangle with a black thingy.

There's a few ways to get rid of spam. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Restricted Membership
Devise a test to determine who is allowed to become a forum member. This easily gets rid of bots, and may deter spammers depending on the test.

Block Spiders
This can get rid of a lot of bots, but it might also block legitimate searches, resulting in a lower userbase.

Closed Forum
Forum can only be viewed by members. This is often a good deterrent. Unfortunately, this also deters casual newbies. Closed forums are typically very free of trolls, but at the cost of not having many lurkers.

Nope I didn't know either. I was disturbed recently to click on a link in a post only to have the most vile porn appear that I couldn't get off my hubby's 'puter easily at all! I didn't know how to do anything about it so now I do. Thanks for all that you do!

I have an idea:
A seedling may not post a URL in a message. One can do this only upon attaining sprout status. Messages in the introduction forum do not count toward status.
If you're not sure how to do this, ask Stephanie at LHC.

RP or any other moderator who happens to see this,

I have a question I've wondered about but didn't see the point in starting a whole thread so this is a good opportunity to ask. When we click the red triangle and report a bad post - what happens? Does it send out e-mails, or does something pop up on your screnes, or something else? Just wondering.

Fortunately I've never seen porn here. Special thanks to the moderators for getting rid of these things so fast.

Doe, we receive an email notification in our email inboxes when a post is reported. So, if 10 people report the same post...we get 10 emails! :p

Pierre, Alissa's web developer has stated that once the upgrades take place, we will have the spam moreso under control. I'm not sure what he plans to have in place to eliminate these bothersome posts but I'm sure that it will work out.

Until then, anything is pretty much out of our (moderators) hands and so we will continue to get rid of them as quickly as we can with the help of all you wonderful members who report the posts! Thanks again folks, for being our "eyes" sometimes with these things!
