:o Hello, I am new to the Raw food scene. I want to know if there are any books that anyone can recommend.

Alissa Cohen, whose website this is, has an excellent book and DVD out called Living On Live Food. It has so much information, recipes, meal plans, testimonials, etc. The DVD is great bc it takes the "huh" factor out of preparing raw meals. There's a link to her shop on the upper left hand corner of this page.

I also like the ebooks at thegardendiet.com. You can download like six of them for $20 or thereabouts. Storm Talifero, who runs that site, is a longtime rawfooder with a lot of great philosophical and practical information. Their recipes are simple to make and don't involve any dehyrdating, very yummy.

Other books I like:

Hooked on Raw
Conscious Eating

I'm sure other people will have more recommendations, plus if you do a search (click on the banana up top) you will probably be able to find several old threads on this topic.

ive given this short but knowledge packed 120 page MASTERPIECE to like 15 friends and family as gifts because the late great nw walker was so exactly focused on how to properly fuel our cells .

he attained a body span of 118 years with his philosophy and was mentor to the familiar juice man jay kordik of the long running infomercials .

book aint fancy , and it was written long ago . but it is so right on that its music to my ears . all it takes is reading the first 35 pages to make you a raw foodist forever !! in that time he'll give you the foundation to stand on and grow from .

I must second the Norman Walker books. I was just introduced to them last weekend and have been reading "Becoming Younger" ......back to the recipe thread....he also authored a book Diet and Salad Suggestions (I think the new edition is something like "Guide to Diets and Salads" or something like that)
I get my inspiration for recipes from Allisa's book, Shazzie, and the Boutenkos.

you know the chapter in diet and salad , i think its ' how to know what to eat and how to live ' (sorry i dont have the book right now to check cuz i just gave my copy to a visiting cousin) , well that chapter is my favorite words spoken by nw walker , ITS A GRAND SLAM in terms of dietary philosophy .

Hi... Alissa's Living On Live Food Book is such a great choice! Wonderful recipes! You can get it on this site.

Another good book when starting out is Eating Without Heating which is a book written by teens who have grown up in a raw family. I was surprised and pleased with the recipes in this book. It costs $9.56 on Amazon.com

Lastly, you can type raw recipes on an internet search... and it will pull up lots of helpful sites and recipes...

I have most of the raw books on the market and love them all for their unique qualities. It is hard to pick a favourite. I love Alissa's, and Gabriel Cousen's and Raw Food Real World especially. They are so replete with information as well as great recipes.

I have also downloaded SO many recipes from the Net that my husband wonders why I spend the money and take up the space for the books. I tell him that I like having something in my hand to look at sometimes too for easy reference - The pictures, the teaching, etc.

When I take a recipe off the net, if it has a picture, I always copy that as well. That way when I open my computer I can get some inspiration and ideas. I am now putting a dock for my laptop in the kitchen so I can just have it open there (covered with a plastic of course) and read the recipes right from the screen instead of printing them all and then trying to organize the paper as well. Then when I find a recipe I love, I can go ahead and print it if I want, and/or slip it into a "favourites" file on the computer.

One other book that I find very helpful and great recipes is... The Raw Truth by Jeremy Safron. It has a raw food pyramid as a guide of what to eat on a raw diet. It lists great information about sprouting and dehydrating times. It also provides descriptions of what the grains, beans, herbs and more taste like.... which can be helpful if you're new to raw foods.

Perhaps it would be helpful to go to a bookstore and look at the books... to see what you're drawn to. :)
