Please tell me your experience with this. I have been following 8-1-1 for a long time. Lately every type of sweet fruit that I put in my mouth is making me sick (sweaty, bad stomach ache). So, I'm thinking I need a change for awhile. Is there a raw "teacher" out there that suggests eating higher amounts of fats and greens? Thanks in advance.

I eat about 8% protein, 40% fat, 52% carbs. I find it really hard to eat over 1300 cals a day. My 40% fat is made up of a handful of almonds in my morning smoothie, then salad dressing at lunch and dinner. I have big salads for both lunch and dinner. The only fruit I have is usually in my breakfast smoothie. If I add any flax crackers in I can easily go above 40% fat. I work out very hard 6x a week and have tons of strength and stamina.

Thanks Smasty! Do you mind sharing with me information about your weight? I'm really nervous about gaining weight. Have you been able to maintain your weight eating fat? Thanks!

When I first went raw, I ate a high-fat and greens diet with almost no sweet fruit. This worked for me for about a year, but then my body started rejecting all the fat and I felt horrible. I almost went off raw because I felt so bad. But it did work as a transition from cooked food, so I think high-fat can be OK for at least a while.

My biggest problem was getting energy to do athletic stuff. I didn't have great endurance or energy with high-fat. But I did feel very satisfied and never hungry.

I found that certain fats worked better than others. Coconut was great, and never made me feel weighed down. Nuts and seeds were a problem- they made me kind of groggy. Avocados were mostly OK as long as I didn't overdo them. Flaxseed oil was good too.

If sweet fruit isn't working for you right now, have you tried non-sweet carb sources? Like sprouted grains and legumes, corn, sweet potatoes, jicama, tomatoes, cukes, etc.? I actually haven't been doing well with tons of fruit lately, even though sweet fruit has been the staple of my diet for 2+ years. So I'm taking a break right now and doing more sprouted grains, corn, and non-sweet vegetables. It seems to be working well for now. I still eat the lower-glycemic sweet fruit, like plums/apples/berries/peaches etc.

Everyday for me various. Some day I will eat all or near 8-1-1 and then other days I am like smasty. I suggest you follow how your body feels. If you feel like you need more fats and greens today then do that and if tommorow you to to, great, and then the next day you feel like more fruit then do that. There is no right or wrong way.

Have you tried focusing on green smoothies for awhile?

I had something similar happen and that is what I did. It worked! I guess I just have needed lots of greens for awhile. Now the sweet fruits are tasting good again.

Just a thought

I believe a high fat diet is the way to eat.

I take a Tablespoon of coconut oil every day.

I also supplment with Udo Oil and Hemp oil every day.

I eat an avocado every day

I drink green juices twice a day.

I have been eating nothing but fruit for breakfast, but I have also been getting stomach discomfort afterwards lately, so I may cut that out.

Dr Young (The pH Miracle)

Dr Rosedale (The Rosedale Diet)

Dr Udo Erasmus (Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill)

all support eating a high fat diet although none of these three is completely raw.

Eating fat does not make you fat. It is the types of fat that you eat that are important.

I have plenty of energy - in fact I am just off to the gym for a muscle conditioning class followed by a high energy, high impact step aerobics class.

Only way to find out if it is right for you is to try it

ps - all the oils I eat are organinc and unrefined!

I am losing between 2-3 pounds per week, very steadily. No zig zagging at all. But, I'm 6.0" and 1300 cals is not very much. The fat keeps me so full that I'm never hungry. After drinking my smoothie in the morning (which is 1 banana, 1 apple, some dried coconut, small handful almonds) I'm not hungry again for at least 5 hours. I never even think about lunch until after 1:00. So, with the extra fat and tons of fiber from fruits/veggies/sprouts I'm just never hungry, never have cravings. When I tried 8.1.1 in the past, I could never make it more than a couple days. I always felt famished and had lots of cravings.

Things work very differently for different people though. I know 811 is awesome for a lot of people. But I personally feel that the good fat we eat is very healthy.
