Is oatmeal considered raw? I've seen some in my healthfood store advertised as raw, but I'm not sure if it's just uncooked, or if it's okay in the raw food diet.

"Usually" and I use that word loosely if something saids raw it is, but this is not always the case. The easiest way to be for sure is to call the company and asked them what their procedures are. How they package? Is there any heating involved? If so how hot? Also you could post here the name of the product and some others may have already had experience with it and know whether it is for sure raw or not.

The oat groats and steel cut oats have been said to not be raw unless you get them from a source who can vouch that there was NO heating, steaming, etc. involved as Lay-Lay stated.

But there are some raw fooders (myself included) who do still enjoy them. I have a grain flaker and I roll them myself so they're not "doubly-heated" and I have "raw" oatmeal or use in "raw" oatmeal cookies and other recipes.

But Alissa's website (www.alissacohen.com) carries truly raw rolled oat flakes so you can check into those!
