Hi,

I've looked for what seems everywhere on the Internet for UK sites selling RAW Olive Oil but can't find any! I thought Detox Your World or the Fresh Network would sell it as they have loads of other RAW speciality foods but to my surprise no RAW Olive Oil! Does anyone from the UK know where this stuff is sold?

You can buy raw olive oil everywhere, even in the conventional supermarket. I bet in UK supermarkets too (because I know Jamie Oliver uses it all the time :)). Raw olive oil = cold pressed olive oil from the first press, also called EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL. So be sure to buy the extra virgin one, it is always mentioned on the label. There are many different extra virgin olive oils to happily choose from.

I quote (from a website):

What do first pressing and cold pressing mean?

These terms are interchangeable and were used in the past when initial pressure applied by hand powered presses produced only a limited amount of olive oil from the olive paste. To extract more oil, hot water was applied to the olive paste to improve the flow of oil - that's how the term cold pressing and first pressing came about.

Today, some producers use these terms on their labeling to reaffirm that extra virgin olive oil is an unrefined, natural product that has undergone very little processing and will retain it's nutritive value.

I would have thought cold pressed was raw - I'm in the UK and that's what I use.

I'm pretty sure I read here about not even cold pressed extra virgin organic olive oil is RAW! That's why I'm wondering if any UK sites sell Olive Oil that says it's raw. Also thanks for the link RP, but the shipping and probable import tax added on top would cost too much!

Have you tried Italy?

OUr good friends in Milan use so much most households buy oil in big drums, many at a time and the containers I have seen do not look pasturised.

Also the internet abriviation for italy is ".it"

A lot of the wineries sell it too. Ask a friend next time they go or try on line!

What about Italian specialty shops in London. I know they would have it!

I have bought stuff from Alissa's site and from Fred Pataneaud's site and The Garden Diet and I have never been asked to pay import duty here in Ireland.
Also the dollar is so week at the moment that it would probably seem like a bargain. If I want something from Amazon I always use the US site instead of the UK one.
I agree that because it says cold pressed that does not garantee that the temp has not risen above 46 degrees so it may not be raw. I wouls like to be told that it is raw.

I live on mainland UK and I order lots from the US.

Sometimes you get lucky with import duty, and sometimes you don't.

I think that it is probable that the guy in charge of import duties over here likes to nap a lot. It is the Irish nature to try to find a way to bend all rules. Maybe the guys over on your side do a little more on the inforcement but maybe foods are not subject to import tax and that is mostly what I buy.
