I found some at a market that I sometimes shop at that never used to sell them...they came pre-packaged. They had little white dots on them which I had never seen before on dates from other stores that I usually purchase them from. Is it some sort of spore??? is it safe to eat? I did not buy them.

Sure it's not shredded coconut?
Coconut date rolls - very common.

We live in date country - yeah! I have never seen one mold. The sugar content is so high, it should act as a natural preservative. I have seen some with white looking spots indicating they are old and drying out and showing signs of surgaring however. Perhaps at high humidity? Look at them closely though and make sure they aren't fuzzy. The good thing is that mold from fruit isn't supposed to be very harmful (Yuck)

I buy medjool dates alot, and I have kept them a looooooooong time in my fridge, never saw white spots on them, although when they get old, they do look a little crusty, as the sugar crystalizes, and they dry out, but never spots.

I'd say tell the store manager, and ask them to open the package, and smell them, if they smell at all moldy, don't eat them, if they smell okay, taste one, then see.
