Boy, I had immediate lifting from my depression, not a stimualting effect but a balance in emotional/mental threshhold and recovery (attributing to adrenal glands) and sustained energy all day!!!!!!!! went for an 1 hr hill walk at 10 pm tonite. My incredible outrageous cravings were non existent. I enjoyed raw fresh veggies and juice today.
I don't plan on using it daily or long term but I really do like it and believe in it!

Yep it's has a great energy booster, I use in the morning with my smoothies if I'm going to work out or before a cardio. It also gives you energy in other areas as well - you just wait and try it for a couple more days :D

Depends On How You Chose To Use It? By It Self Or As A Verb! :d

Misslinda you are very fortunate to have had such positive results from maca. All I got was very bad wind and stomach bloating.

Maca is powerful! When I first became raw, I didn't feel the effects of it. Probably because I was experiencing detox and such. I wasn't in tune with my body. Now, when I add it to my smoothies, the effects are immediate. I have to make sure that I don't eat it too late in the day or I have difficulty sleeping. I have it 1-2 times a week. I think it's a great supplement.
I hadn't heard of maca until I went raw. I think it is one of our "little secrets" in our raw world!

I use maca in my smoothies...I've been using it on and off for a couple of years now.
This is where I get it

I find it interesting all the descriptions of its use.
'using it'
'immediate effects'
'macca is powerful'
'energy booster'
.... and then saying it is a 'non stimulant' in order to make it seem OK is a little bit off.
There are tannins and alkaloids galore in the 'stuff' and it's sold as a health product in order to attract sales. Sure it is 'used' by those that are 'in the know' supposedly but base their conception of health on the the stimulation delusion.
Boosting energy from without (as opposed to within) is always a short lived experience no matter how you justify the pendulum effect (and there has to be a homeostatic adjustment somewhere).
Maybe it's pure manna from heaven but I really don't care or concern myself with products that want to 'do' the 'doing' for me.
I rest, sleep and exercise to increase my energy for long term gains, eat modestly of whole foods and partake in envigorating mental activity so as to exercise the brain.
Just a differing POV.

well for myself, I DO NOT define "stimulating" as [sudden] boost like that of coffee--that is why I say Maca is not "stimulating" ( careful not to define the same effect as coffee) It's a root and has balancing qualities that have invigorating effects to the body system. It's a very Eastern understanding of herbs, roots etc that is not viewed the same as Western culture.
I don't understsnd where you see it does the "do" for you??? Herbs and roots have been used for centuries in many cultures. They are not "food" but used in medicinal purposes--so they enhance your own body system so you CAN function at optimal levels.
So in other words, maca can be eaten whole as well.........does that then change your thinking? Just curious
 are you sure you're not going back to bed anytime soon?

i have seen all sorts of roots and herbs in my local grocer (more of a natural foods store)
i would love to try it.............
have you all really seen and noticed that big of a difference??
i do the green smoothies daily and swear by my juicer (it's amazing)
but............. would love to have something herbal to add,
especially if you feel it helps with mood, and energy!!

My hubby and I use it. We love it! Out of it right now and need to order some more. My hubby asks me everyday "Did you order it yet?", LOL, I think he likes the stuff.

On a more serious note friends...........
Are you using it everyday?
I ask, b/c I was raised with the understanding that concentrated roots and herbs are not to be taken often and no more than 90 days (less is better) for [medicinal] purposes. So for myself, I use it very conservatively.
:)
I use it 1-2 times a week. I might try it 3 times a week when school starts.
Also, I started with small amounts and now just put a T. in each smoothie - 1/2 blenderful.
everything I've read says it's as safe as any other whole food, no bad effects and can be consumed daily, even in large quantities... in fact one thing I read said more is better... http://health.discovery.com/centers/sex/libido/maca.html
I just started taking 1 T/day three days ago, not feeling any different yet :( Got mine from Natural Zing.

OK, I'm opening my learning portal for you. (as in me wanting to learn something from you)
'balancing qualities' means what?
And how does Maca know what your balancing requirements are?
Does it fine tune it's properties for individual needs?
Does it interfere with rest or is it something to get you going?
Cause and effect. Medicinal 'effects' are actually bodily reactions. Do you agree?
I believe the only true 'enhancement' is that of increased functionality through a well rested nervous system, not medicinally induced bodily reactions to non nutritive substances.
Western and Eastern modalities have much in common in this regard.
The 'doing for you' is an observation of peoples assessments, as individual testimonies or commercially produced enticements
Ok back to my cozy bed :)

About 7 years ago hubby and I purchased some very expensive Maca. We had never heard of RAW. We noticed absolutely no benefit from it at all. So I thank you for the link MissLinda and next time I am able I will try this and see if we do better with this cheaper one. And cornvalley? Just want to let you know that your perspective is appreciated also.
