I can't seem to tolerate the taste of garlic & onions raw unless I saute it in some oilve oil. Plus, when I eat raw garlic & onions, it upsets my stomach.

If it upsets your stomach, I'd say don't eat them.

I eat onions in salad, but less than I would in stir-fry. I eat garlic occasionally, and use it as medicine for tooth or nose infection.

Some varieties of onion are easier to eat raw than others. I like the purple ones.

Some people like them, some don't. The only onions I can handle are mild green onions and SOMETIMES a little bit of red onion and I can only handle a teensy bit of garlic and it must be well distributed in something else, like some raw nuts.

We are probably not actually meant to eat onions but because we've hibridized them to be milder we can tolerate them, but again, not all of us. If they bug you, don't eat them.

Nothing you can do to an onion will change it's strong taste and keep it raw at the same time except for maybe soaking and rinsing them but I'd say, just don't eat them or try green onions. Onions and garlic and healthy and contain lots of sulpher which is an important nutrient but they can also interfere with your natural bacteria sometimes so it all depends on how they make YOU feel.

You could also try dehydrating them a bit and see if it takes some of the bite out. If you're wanting to replicate that sauteed taste/texture, you could try tossing them with a little bit of oil and then dehydrating for a few hours. You have to watch them, though, and make sure they don't get too dry. Unless that's how you want them! :)

I've tried dehydrating onions and I still got heartburn. My mom and I cannot handle anything with garlic in it. So yeah...I eat onions in salad sometimes. But I try to stay away from garlic. Even a tiny tiny bit will make me sick!

I love onions and garlic, but I grow my own, so I pick them when they are very young and sweet.

I slice the garlic and dehydrate, then re-hydrate to use in recipes, or toss them in dry and let them soak up some of the juices, like in nut cheese or marinara sacues, they are good that way.

I like onions on burgers, pizza, rawviolies, sauces, salads, I just like onions, I like just about any kine, white is great, purple is nice too, I don't like them old, I like them fresh, I chop them and add them to tacos, burritos, salsa, etc, sometimes, I just grad a slice or two and eat it,

I used to love onion rings cooked, but have never ventured to make them raw, I've seen a few recipes, but just haven't gone there yet, mostly now, I just eat fruit, it suits me, it's easy and fast.

I had the same problem with garlic untill I bought some fresh garlic at my local farmers market. WOW.. what a difference fresh garlic makes. It is _soooooooo_ good! So if you want to use garlic and can get your hands on some fresh local stuff try that. I would use 1/3 of the garlic a recipie wanted and it would still be too much, now I use what the recipie asks for and it is always delish!

When I eat garlic I like to remove the internal green bit and that help with the fire.

Onions; I really like them raw but give me killer gas. I also love marinating them and this makes them very mild.

eppp,

how do you marinate them?

I love raw onions and garlic (always loved them, cooked and uncooked) and the only thing that worries me is the gas.

Onions don't sit with me well, never have...

Garlic I will throw a clove in with my salad dressing and puree it... it's VERY spicy and pungent but I like it.

If they don't agree with you, then leave them out.

yeah I agree with everyone else, if you don't like it or it disagrees with you then don't bother with it.

For me I looooovvvvveeee them. I can sit and eat onions and garlic by themselves, ok weird huh, LOL! My grandmother fixes a bowl of onions almost every night and sits down and eats them by themselves. For me, my family has requested me to stop doing this because I became bad company with the smell. :(

Try the onion bread recipe. Both of my parents have GERD and onions can bother them. My mom in particular. The onion bread didn't bother them. I think I have a case iron stomach. Raw onions taste good to me and don't bother me one bit. Can't stand garlic though.
