IÂ’m going backpacking for a few days. I have never been backpacking before. Anyway please help me to figure out what to bring. So some things are obvious such as trail mix with nuts, seeds, cacao, and dried fruits, a common backpacking food anyway, but mine will be raw. I can bring some dried fruit, raw crackers, and raw bars. Then some strong fruits such as apples, plums, nectarines, oranges, grapes, cherry tomatoes, and I think IÂ’ll bring a couple of bananas and eat them the first day, as they donÂ’t travel well. Can you think of any other fruits? And hereÂ’s where it gets really hardÂ…. veggies. I was thinking about some carrots but wonder how long they will stay good not being refrigerated? Same with zucchini and celery? I have E3Live AFA capsules to help with greens but what real greens can I eat on the trail? Green beans would be good, right? How long would broccoli or snap peas last not being refrigerated? I especially canÂ’t think of any leafy greens. :p

I thought of corn but itÂ’s too bulky with too much garbage, darn! Cause if I cut it off the cob it would need refrigeration right? I donÂ’t eat plain avocadoes or plain garlic. Also can you think of any recipes that donÂ’t need refrigeration for variety? Thanks! :D

Some of those fruits on your list don't hold up very well. Like peaches and plums. They spoil quickly. Grapes and tomatoes squish. Pears are a good choice if not fully ripe. Ripe ones are delicate. Carrots would be fine if left whole and unpeeled, provided you aren't in a super hot climate. Whole onions would hold up, if you could stomach them. Jicama or sunchokes should hold up, although jicama can be large. Cabbage would hold up, although you'd want a very small head or just the inner part left whole. Again, bulky. Small, very firm bell peppers would work. Again, leave whole. Small summer squash or cucumbers left whole would be doable. Not sure that you'd want to take green beans or snap peas. They'll keep for a few days unrefrigerated, but they don't provide many calories and really that's what you want during a hike. Calories and carbs. "Just Veggies" are vegetables dried by tumbling them in air. They are raw because they are not heated. They are very lightweight but might take up too much bulk. If I were you, I'd concentrate mainly on the nuts, seeds and dried fruit kind of stuff.

When I was on a camping trip in july, i brought a bunch of clementines with me. That's pretty much all I ate for a week, and it never got old. Maybe you should try looking into mono fruit meals, with oranges or bananas. And eat an abundance of them. But mostly I would just drink a bunch of water, and feed off of the sun.
