I was kind of half listening to The View this morning and they were talking about French, their diets, ect. (seems to be what all of America is talking about all the time these days). Anyway, there was an interview with iether a doctor or scientist, and he was going through the "myths." He said that the whole 8 glasses of 8oz of water is a myth and your body doens't need that much! I was shocked. I can understand how less water on raw because we get a lot through our fruits and veggies, but woah! Joy said "because we get it through our food right?" I was thinking "umm, yea, raw, but most of America consumes cooked, junk, and regular salt" I dunno, it just struck me. There were a few other things that sounded odd, but I odn't remmeber. Something about carbs and then fats.

Yeah I remember getting GALLONS of water eating pizza and cheeseburgers every day
*sarcastic*

That's ridiculous. You need to eat food that contains water in order to GET water. I wonder how many e-mails they'll get LOL

Just consider that the *first* thing a body does when it goes raw is RELEASE a ton of extra water. SAD bodies need it. We know ours simply do not need nearly as much. :)

The Dr. who originally made the statement about how much water we needed expressed the result in ounces and someone else turned it into the 8-oz. glasses of water thingie. Keep in mind that water is in many of the foods the average person eats. Like soup. And it's also in the beverages they drink. I still don't get the idea of people eating only cooked food. I don't know anyone...ANYONE who only eats cooked foods. I've lived all over the country and everyone I know eats salads, raw fruits and raw veggies, at least sometimes. Now granted, I do think most people do not carefully dehydrate their foods, if they dehydrate at all. Nor do they worry about whether such things as coconut oil are raw or not raw. But they do eat some raw foods.

I was at a lecture for women this past winter which featured several doctors who each focused on an issue. The woman doctor who spoke on the topic of nutition said that we do not need the 8 glasses that we are used to hearing recommended. I remember being very shocked at that. I wonder where they are getting this? Like what is wrong with it if we do drink or try to drink that amount of water? I am sure that most people don't consume that much but it doesn't hurt to keep us aware that we should drink. This doctor said that we should just listen to our body and drink when we are thirsty. I don't know how many of us would actually recognize thirst before it becomes severe. I wish the medical people would concentrate on more of the really serious issues.

I think it'll just keep people saying "yay, i was right! I'm in pain and stuff but that has NOTHING to do with my water cosumption" ok, they probably aren't thinking that, but still....most of America is chronically dehydrated. I guess it'll give them an excuse to not drink water anyway.

I don't think the miniscule amount of raw "once in a while" is nearly enough to get the water out of those foods.

Dr.Graham said, that if you don't pee at least 8 times a day and it is yellow - you are dehydrated. And if you eat dehydrated stuff like dried stuff or oil or seaweed, then you will be. I guess some water might help, but water make up in fruit and veggies is just different.

I depend on my voice to make my living and therefore hydration is vital. General consencious among voice coaches is that you should drink at least half your body weight in ounces (i.e. 108 lbs = 54 oz) and yes, your pee should run clear. Hope that helps! :D

About 70% of our body is water - pure water, and is therefore the most important nutrient we have.

SADers probably require more than 8 glasses, whereas we RAW folks require less. I think it also depends of the amount of crap the we have in our bodies. A very polluted body requires much more water than one that is relatively clean.

I think the 8 glasses is just a guideline - a very poor one.

For once, I think Dr Graham has a point - the colour of the urine is a fair indicator - you don't want 'happy face yellow' pee but you don't want it looking colourless like the water you just drank either - balance!!

I remember hearing recently that you do want your urine to be clear...that's how you know you're drinking enough water. Maybe I misunderstood, or it's just another varying opinion. (I'm not sure where I heard it -- so who knows how credible it was.)

I know that when I'm 100% raw I'm not as thirsty, especially in the summer months when there's plenty of juicy fruit available.

Here's the thing - in nature when animals are hungry they eat what they instinctively "like" to eat (or what's available) and they drink water when it's available and they're thirsty. It's a scientific fact that only domesticated animals watch THE VIEW. ;)

We civilized folk experience many stimuli that mess with our instincts. But my experience with RAW is that the longer you do it, the more you can truly listen to your body. (and therefore need to rely less on Joy Behar - although I'm sure she's a lovely woman. :D )

Wow, really? Unfortunately, I've known many people who never, EVER eat raw veggies or fruit (and quite a few of those never eat cooked veggies either). The closest they come to veggies are french fries and potato chips and the closest they come to fruit is strawberry ice cream. My first husband was like that, and one of my brothers, along with several co-workers from the past, and two good friends. Happily, at least one has changed - my brother. He is about 80% raw now, has lost 50lbs and feels wonderful!

Well, apparently I never met him. Didn't he ever buy school lunch? At my school we had green salads and fresh fruit. They did at my daughter's school in NY and they do here too.

not at his school, nor mine. He went to Atlanta schools and I went to Florida schools. Now when I got to middle school we had a small icky salad bar, but it was an extra charge to eat off of it if I remember right.

I agree with Veeg. I've noticed many people on this forum will recommend listening to your body, but if one has been eating SAD for 10, 20, 40 years or longer, our bodies are so messed up that what they have been conditioned to want is not necessarily what is good for them.

That's why fasting (water only) for a long time is such a powerful tool - it allows one to essentially start over and eliminate all the bad signals that the body is sending.

It has been deomonstrated that the foods that we first eat as babies, condition us to what we like. Since most of us grew up eating sugar, that is now what we crave even though it is not good for us.

I am afraid that I know some of these as well and my 5 year old grandson is one of them.
I tried to "trick" him yesterday with my chocolate ice-cream and he took one taste and said "I don't like this"
