Mornin' all,
I have to share this with all of you because it really frustrated me last night. It's along the lines of the "What people buy at Walmart" thread that had been going on recently.
Last night I stopped by a place where I pick up my organic produce, along with food for my cats. I was checking out the raw goodies they had for the day, and had a woman next to me make the comment that she was checking out what I had in my basket because she's trying to eat healthier. Which is great ... that's always a nice thing to hear when someone is doing that. The next is really probably my own fault because I'd commented about being raw. (Since I was standing there looking at all the raw stuff.) I don't make a habit of volunteering info on it, but if someone is sincerely interested, I'll tell them.
Then the entire time I was still there (she left after I did) I was grilled. First innocently, asking if I'd tried a raw tea, but then looking in my basket and seeing the bag of avocados and thinking they were portabello mushrooms. "How can you eat those raw ... yuck ...". Here I always thought that even a lot of SAD folks ate raw mushrooms ... on salads, etc. Silly me. I just commented that you can stuff them, marinate them, etc, and then said that they were avocados and not mushrooms.
I had picked up some of the white tea to try after reading the thread on here about it, and boy did she have a field day with that one! "How can you drink that? You have to cook it." (I don't know about the "cook" part, but whatever.) <sigh>
So I have to say that having someone checking out what you put in your basket and making comments about it all just feels really rude. I could tell she's the type of person who just argues about anything and everything (I work with someone like that, too, and it's frustrating.). Partly she was curious about it all, but it just came across very rudely to me. I'd never dream of going into a store and badgering someone about what they're buying. (And they could have a cart piled high with sugar filled junk foods!)
But this is just the viewpoint from the other side of the Walmart thread ... it's really not pleasant to have happen ... :(
