Let's see... my fridge is looking pretty scarce right now, no fresh fruit whatsoever. I can't wait to go shopping for food with my mom on Thursday

I also got up at 8pm and went to bed at 1, so, this next bit is what I ate before sleeping.

Alissa's Mock Salmon pate used as a dip for baby carrots. I added some crushed red pepper, sliced olives and celery and it's deeeeelicious. Just like the tuna fish my grandma used to make (without the Wonder Bread and dill pickle on the side)
Half a package of baby herb salad with mac nut oil and the cutest organic grape tomatoes
Cherry Pie Lara bar

Since waking up:

1 Syzmo
Kale salad with mac nut oil, avocado, baby tomato

When I get back from the gym, I'll probably make an almond milk and banana smoothie. They feel so decadent after only making green smoothies for almost two months. They are SooOOoooo good!

Seems like so long ago ...
Green Smoothie
Blueberry Cheesecake
Collard roll with marinated veggies
Taste of carob fudge I made, YUM!

I think I'll make some carrot/apple juice later!

I'm noticing that I eat way more than you people. Well, today anyway. PMS ing, I guess. Heres' the confession,

B-fast
Odwall Juice (not totally raw, but I was on the road, oh well..)
a few leftover raw corn chips

Lunch
Whole Foods Thai Mango Slaw (yummy and raw but I ate a lot of it)
Lara bar

snack (went a little haywire here)
(craving more sweets so I made a date nut smush and just devoured it) Then made several trips back to the bag of cashews in my cabinet .....not proud of the snack.

Dinner
5 Rawvioli's with marinara
green salad with cukes, onions, home grown tomatoes, a few olives, and a dressing made of carrots, tsp olive oil, tsp braggs (I bought this when Alissa said it was ok, now I have a whole big thing of it) and ACider Vinegar.

It's now 10:30 and I need to stop eating but I don't want to. Help! I know I have these days sometimes. I just have to accept how I feel now and I'll probably feel better tomorrow.

Where do you get your açaÃ*?! I want to try it, but all I know of is the frozen stuff at Whole Foods!

And it's 7:27am...blargh! So I have had one very tiny synthroid. Mmmm, yummy? OH yes!! But I know for breakfast I'll rummage through my bananas and find maybe 2 or 3 of them, then have a tropical fruit salad from Whole Foods!! Then lunch, I don't know...supposed to get something free for volunteering for something on campus...but yeah...last night they had ice cream and gatarade. So my chances of getting somethign good is low! So I'll go to the diner down the street and get a large salad. Mmm, goodness!!!

Oh that reminds me...I need to shop for food for my dorm!!!

Pierre

It is the frozen stuff. The only place I know of to get truly raw açaÃ* is Belém. I'm thinking of going there for a visit.

Lulo is Solanum quitoense, which grows in Colombia as well. It's tart and also called naranjilla, though it is no relation to the orange.

wow, all this food ya'll are eating is making me sooo hungry. Of course that could be because all I had this morning was a plum and I went off and forgot my bag of fruit for breakfast and lunch. I guess I will just have to wait till I can leave the office at 1 pm. It's not even 10 am yet. Well it will make my late lunch taste even more delightful and appreciated.

So far today:

Breakfast: Huge green smoothie with; banana, apple 2 dates, spiralina, Kale, many hands full of mixed baby greens and water

Lunch: Kale salad with tomatoes, shredded carrots, cucumber, lots of homegrown sprouts, lemon, a little celtic salt and olive oil. With a homemade sun dried tomato cracker

I also had a few bites of other things; the nacho cheese that is now in the dehydrator, the nectarines I cut for the kids, the orange I cut for the kids and there must have been something else cause I am so darn full!!

Dinner I am planning on having a big salad with lots of tomatoes. We have so many tomatoes from our garden. I have been cutting them in wedges and serving them on plates to the kids. They love them with a little bit of salt. I have noticed though that most vegetables out of the garden are eaten more by the kids if left whole and eaten like an apple (tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, zucchini etc). Apples however need to be sliced in my house!! LOL!

Wow! all these simple and delicious ideas! I feel like I eat WAY more that you all!!

B-fast: 1/4 granny smith and 1 raw macaroon

Lunch: Flax cracker, Raw Cheddar slices, spinach pesto and big salad with raw miso dressing.

Snack: taste tested my onion bread(1st time making it:) it's great and some pineapple and a few nuts.

Dinner: probably carrot kale celery and avo soup.

I've been raw since april and have lost 20lbs. I teach 6-8 yoga classes a week and I lift and walk, maybe I need to chill so I won't be so munchy!!!:)
Any advice on how to really stop and listen to my body and not be so focused on the preparation of the food? I love my lifestyle, but I don't want to become fanatical, I just want to enjoy:)

so far,

bowl of cherries
herbal tea
4 almonds
1 peach

I am making rawviolies with marinara sauce for dinner

It is 4PM, and I am attempting to eat more often and more food each day.

although I love the weight loss, I do know that I was using NOT eating as a way to control my environment. and that isn't healthy for me.

so, I am attempting to eat more each day, and a little bit several times each day.

I've been eating SAD (Well..still vegetarian, so not really SAD) food like crazy lately. And I keep doing that last supper thing, where I think "I'll restart raw tomorrow, so I'm going to eat this, this, this, and this today, cuz no more after today!"
When it comes to food, I'm an all-or-nothing person. I can't do "just a little."

Today I only juiced radishes, grapes, ginger, and a cucumber and drank that.

I'm really trying to kickstart my back-to-rawness. It seems I may have to do this as a juice-only or water-fast.

Might eat two more bananas and some raw veggies. Trying to be 100% raw today! I no longer have cravings for Chinese because I burned myself out on it...THANK GOD!!

I ate a baked potato, and butter and sour cream

I know why I did, and I am paying for it with massive pain in my gallbaldder, and I knew I would.

I chose to punish myself, and I did, and now I'm up at before 6am, paying wiht pain, and that is okay.

I chose to do this, I understood the consequences, and I did it anyway, what a beautiful learing to experience.

the pain is too much to handle, much like the emotional pain I am going through at this moment, but that is good, because the physical pain is easier, and keeps my mind off the emotional pain.

I believe I did this deliberately, and that was my choice, and I can choose differently next time.

As there WILL be a next time, there always will be a next time, a dinner out with friends, a birthday, a celebration with food, so as I make my choices, and this may not have been my best choice, LOL, I can accept it as mine, and get on with my life now.

May all my choices be this clearly learned, and may I learn fast.

a cup of ginger/honey tea this morning, and

for lunch:
Raw-violi [5-6] + a large mixed herb salad with alfalfa and sunflower sprouts sprinkled with a few pumpkin seeds and topped with a a tahini garlic dressing, and then one Chai raweo [last of these yummy little delights] :)

This may be it for today; I prefer to eat biggest meal at lunch time, and I'm playing with lightening the amounts of food that I eat overall for the day. I might have a few Kale chips that I made this past week-end when I get home and/or a fresh juice, though expect that will be about it for today.

Of course. I dont actually measure anything though, just start throwing things in and taste as I go.

Coconut water (or sometimes just regular water)
Coconut meat (when I have it... helps to make it thicker and yummier)
Raw cocoa powder (usually two TBSP)
Agave
About 3 TBSP raw coconut oil
A pintch of celtic sea salt
About 2 TBSP of macadamia nut butter
And a dash of organic (fair trade!) vanilla extract

Some times I throw a banana in there. Again, adjust ingredients as you are making it and add what you like. Mmmmmm. Enjoy. <3

I wont give them in order, I'll just list all the things I have had TOTAL throughout the entire day....

~6 Extra Large bananas
~5 cups Kale
~1 dried date
~5 apples (mix of large and medium) I am totally into apples lately...can't get enough!!!
~2 packed cups dandelion greens (from the yard...even though theres like frost haha)
~about 5 cups romaine
~1 cup whole frozen strawberries
~2 LARGE oranges.

I'll probably have another orange and some poppy seeds...I like the poppy seeds just plain for some reason (or in a green smoothie.) I am doing so well with getting my calcium today! Except I used up all the kale today so I'll probably have a little upcoming trouble with getting a good amount.

What do you all think about Garden of Life's bone density calcium supplement thing???

Doe
11-04-2006, 07:45 PM
Lunar*Fey, do you have that many wild dandilion plants in your yard or are they the cultivated kind?

The calcium in raw greens is usable by the body and is very benificial for you. Nuts and seeds also have some calcium and in the raw form is usable.

Once calcium has been processed and heated it becomes unusable to humans or animals. Hubby was given a calcium supliment to take after his back surgery fusing some broken bones together in his spine. A year later he had to have more surgery to scrape all that unusable calcium off the outside of those fused bones.

To get in to bone or teeth the calcium must be raw and unprocessed. There have been many studies on this usually in connection with pasturized dairy. A study reported on in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/83/6/1420) shows the importance of fresh fruit and vegetables in increasing bone density.

It is so good to have you back at RFT.

Thanks Doe, I missed all of you!!
I found all of the dandelion greens in my yard. Too bad winter is like here all ready...they're all going to die. I agree that the best way to get calcium is through raw, unprocessed foods and that that is its true usable form. It's just that I want to have back up. I've always had very small, light bones...and since I am most likely starting indoor track and maybe soccer again in the spring I want to make absolutely sure that I am getting the nutrition my bones need...so I just wanted some back up and garden of life seemed like an ok source...there isn't much crap in it. Here is the link:: http://www.gardenoflife.com/detail_living_calcium_adv.shtml
It's called "Living Calcium Advanced"

Doe
11-05-2006, 07:52 PM
Dear Lunar*Fey your body seems to have had enough problems without adding more to the mix.

Chemistry defines organic as containing carbon (which living things have), also as a food produced without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, additives, anti-biotics, steroids, etc. An example of organic calcium is found in leafy green vegetables grown without pesticides and delivered and packaged without the use of preservatives or additives.

A women's body depends upon an intake of calcium each day for the processes of life to take place. Calcium is a critical component for the formation of strong bones and for calcium's role in the contraction and relaxation phase of all muscles within the human body (skeletal, cardiac, and smooth).

The human body can only recognize and utilize one type of calcium: organic calcium. This bio-available type of calcium is found in fruits (many citrus), seeds and vegetable. The physical characteristic of organic calcium is the only available form that the body needs and uses. Organic calcium is found within the body in the matrix, spongy living core of the bones.

Medical studies have concluded that inorganic calcium found in the blood stream will not be recognized and used. Instead, it is removed from the blood and collected in the kidneys which, can lead to the development of kidney stones. The body requires calcium for life and daily bodily repair. Since there is no usable calcium available the brain instructs the bone matrix to release organic calcium into the blood stream. The result is a loss of calcium from the bones eventually resulting in osteoporosis.

Calcium intake should be from fruit, seeds and dark green leafy vegetable sources. The absorption of organic calcium takes place readily from the blood in its vital role of carrying out the metabolic processes in the body.

Taking inorganic calcium does not fool hormones into building more bone any more than delivering an extra load of bricks will make a construction crew build a larger building. Furthermore inorganic calcium promotes a net calcium loss, creating the potential for disaster over time in the unsuspecting individual.

It can also build up on the outside of your weakest bones as in the case of my hubby or in the lining of the blood vessels just like cholesterol. I personally would not wish to see you putting something into your body that it is going to have to flush out.

If you do decide to take it please increase your celery intake. Fresh raw celery contains more than four times as much organic sodium as calcium. Using calcium suppliments has the tendency to leave deposits if inorganic calcium in the system, eating plenty of celery daily has been of great benefit to those afflicted with this habit. The organic sodium in celery aids in maintaining such inorganic calcium in solution until some of it at least can be eliminated from the body before it accumulates and causes trouble. Also the rich magnesium and iron content of celery furnishes valuable nourishment for the blood cells.

So please think about it and whatever you decide just know that I posted this because I care, not trying to be bossy.

Funny, My mom was making me take this crap name brand of calcium supplements and I was craving celery like MAD, I think I could have eaten the entire head yesterday...also I can tell my body has been fighting illness because of lack of energy and intense cravings for oranges and celery, and apples a bit as well. Plus my mom is really sick. I love feeling my body work!
I'm not sure what I am going to do about the calcium. I think my grandmother already bought them, so I'm thinkign I'll just use them on days I don't get enough calcium. The supplement that is just calcium and not calcium advanced doesn't have anything but natural plants and is supposedly only heated at low temperatures or something so its like dehydrated food. Its a lot of sea vegetables and such. So I think I'll only use it once in a while, as back up...I understand that our bodies only absorb it from the right sources. We only get conventional produce, I know that is still "organic" sources of calcium but definately not as good a source as from organic produce. so...if the doctor says my bones are too small, at least I can say well I am taking calcium supplements. haha. dumb medical "science" any way.
