Eating a lot of nuts and fat? Anyone have weight loss results after eating as much raw as they like...raw brownies, raw cheesecake etc... Because I calculated the amount of calories and fat in RP's brownies along with thestore bought frosting and I went O my God!!

Calories: 1867
Fat: 139 grams

And I ate 1/2 a recipe yesterday and 1/2 a recipe the day before.

So could I lose weight eating like this? Here is what I had yesterday:

Breakfast:

Green smoothie:
3 big handfuls baby greens
2 bananas
1 cup mixed frozen fruits
2 Tbsp flax seeds

Lunch:

Big bunch of grapes
2-3 cups watermelon
4 clementine
1 banana

Afternoon:

1/4 cup snap peas
1/2 recipe brownies with frosting

Dinner:

1/2 cantaloupe (3 cups?)
Munched on some veggies (mushrooms, brocolli, yellow and green string beans, cauliflower, cucumber)
3 clementine

So total fat and calories for today:

Calories: 2975
Fat: 152 grams

I am worried, it's a lot of calories and fat..Will I lose weight..Help!

Can't speak for all, but I did! I didn't have a lot of weight to lose, but I lost weight eating pretty much what I darn well pleased! Many others here have too. I guess it depends and everyone is different, so you're gonna get different answers.

I don't eat brownies or cheesecake and haven't been calculating grams of fat, but I've been eating 90-180 grams of olives (dried, weighed with the pit - I haven't bothered weighing the pits afterward) and an avocado a day, and peanuts fairly often, and I am losing weight.

I eat whatever I want and am able to maintain my weight (which is what I want). Sometimes if you have weight issues, you need to limit your fat intake. But everyone's body is different.

I am losing and I am eating as much as I want and whatever (as long as its raw) I want.

Hi Migrou,

I found if I ate more than a few nuts a day I would stop losing weight. I think each of us are different and you'll have to just try different ways of eating and see what works for you.

Carlene, who many know on here, who lost about 120 or 130 pounds in 9 months stopped losing weight when she added 1 handful of nuts a day. She had to cut them out.

But then many, like you read above, can eat them with no problem. Don't worry or fret. Enjoy your raw foods and then just make adjustments as you find you need to.

Yes. My 20lb loss during my 30 day challenge was eating what ever I wanted. However I must say that being 100% my appetite has really decreased and I am eating more simple than when I started a year ago.

I eat pretty simply now, but when I first went raw, I ate and ate and ate and ate and ate, nutmilk shakes, brownies, nuts, nuts and more nuts, lots of ice creams, desserts, and whatever I wanted, I've lost 69 pounds so far.

I just eat what I want, I don't worry about it, I just eat raw. and that's it, no counting, no worrying no figuring no nothing, just raw.

Many people tend to eat what they want in the beginning and still lose weight. Then the weight loss will slow down and they have to watch the fats or keep them to a minimum. Everyone's different though. What works for one person will not work for another.

Oh yes you can. You must learn not to count calories and fat. It means nothing on a raw, vegan lifestyle. This lifestyle is the way our great ancestors lived in paradise and they had no knowlege of 'calories and fat content' as we do today. They ate what felt right. Do the same. Trust me, calories and fat don't really matter. Personally, I try not to eat too many fats because I don't need that many, but I have at least one little handful of nuts every day to keep balanced and at the most, I'll eat a bowl full of raw nuts or coconut and the weight is constantly dropping right off of me. While raw fats are harder to digest than greens or fruits, they are not the only thing that contributes to weight gain. Most people are overweight because their systems are full of toxins and they are dehydrated. Don't overdo it on nuts but certainly enjoy them, you'll most likely drop weight if you need to, regardless of what you eat within the 100% raw, vegan diet. I am a purist and I eat mostly very simple raw without cutting or freezing or dehydrating or anything like that and I'm 100% and I don't really need too many nuts, but a little bit every day feeld right to me.

Luckily, I don't like plain nuts very much, so, you'll never find me reaching into a bag or bowl and snacking.

My diet has morphed a little bit and this is where I'm at:

Morning : Green Smoothie
Lunch: Kale salad with lots of mac nut oil.
Dinner: Kale salad or raw sushi/salmon pate and collard wraps.

Snacks: Almond milk and banana smoothie (so simple and so delicious) celery and carrot sticks with homemade dip or fresh fruit. Most of the time I just wind up having more salad :)

So, the fatty foods I eat are avocados in the salad, the macadamia nut oil and about four tablespoons of the pate.

You look at people who drink milk and cheese on a daily basis.. all that fat that ISN'T great for you. As most others have said, eat, be merry and don't worry. As your body adjusts, you'll naturally start eating simpler and cut out more fats and sweets :)

I agree - totally. We have been "trained" to count calories and fat content. Shoot! If folks were doing that all the time, we would not be a world of obese beings! Look at McBarf's foods! I also listen to my body. There are times when I crave sweets and there are times when I crave greens. Please, don't get hung up on the counting and weighing and all that goofiness. Your body will let you know once you've committed to 100% raw.
I also know that in order TO lose, you have to eat. When you don't, ANYTHING your body eats will turn to fat as it think it's not going to be getting any more food. Whereas if you eat consistently, you will lose weight. If you find you are not, try decreasing your nut intake and up your leafy, green veggies.

I only have about 5-10 lbs to lose, and I find that eating a lot of fat or calories in one day has me just staying the same, whereas eating a LITTLE bit lighter has me lose. And bingeing on either fruit or fat (which I do...) will have me gain a little. But not unforgiveably. I imagine that the more that you have to lose, the easier it will be to eat more fat and calories.

Cheers!

Doesn't it depend on what you were eating before? If you were eating 3000 calories per day then you'll lose weight. If you've got Alissa's book, have a look through the testimonials - it looks like eating more simply is likely to become more attractive as you progress through your raw journey.

Enjoy!

It all depends on your body and how much weight you have to lose. Don't worry about calories, gently observe how you feel, and make adjustments if needed.

I eat whatever I want, BUT I find it's really hard for me to eat over 1300 cals a day on raw (this is coming from a food addict that can really stuff it in). I really tend to lose my appetite on raw and eat more when I'm hungry...and I'm rarely hungry on raw. The smoothie I make in the morning keeps me going for 5-6 hours. The extra fiber in everything just keeps me really full. I love raw treats...cakes, pies, cookies...but I just don't crave them anymore and they sit and sit in my fridge. I've got a slab of lovely chocolate in my fridge (the real stuff w/ raw cacao butter) that's been there for over a week.

Smasty, I'm coming over to raid your fridge. :)

Migrou, I have about 30 lbs left to lose, and I find that if I eat too many fats, it just doesn't move. Or if it is moving, it's moving at the rate of continental drift. A woman named Carlene, who has a journal on this site, lost 136 pounds in 9 months, and she advocates doing a raw food diet with 20% or less of your calories coming from fat. Since I've started that, the fat is melting off me. I think you will eventually lose all the weight even if you're eating lots of fats, but it will just take longer. There's some great info on Carlene's site, by the way: www.rawfoodbootcamp.com.

I also eat whatever raw foods I want when I feel like it! I eat a lot of fats...nuts, seeds, avacados, etc. but I still lost 70 lbs this way. Like someone else said, listen to you body and don't worry about the calories. Eat well, and you will be healthy. :)

That is a big part of what is so great about this--eating whatever you want of good, natural, raw foods without worrying about calculating anything. I'm very new at this, but I have alread noted that not having to count anything gives a wonderful sense of freedom. I don't know if I'm losing weight (I'm chosing not to weigh myself), but I'm on day 2 & my pants feel a little loser.

You should weigh yourself! I hated weighing myself when I first started this, but once I began to see the actual proof in numbers, it was extremely motivating! :)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post all the wonderful information. I will have to learn to listen and trust my body. I chose also not to weight myself for 6 weeks and that is why I was a little worried. I wouldn't want to find myself after 6 weeks and have gained weight. I will trust my body to know what it needs and concentrate more on how I feel and improving what I eat instead if the weight loss.

I find that when I eat more nuts my whole system slows down. My body doesn't seem to tolerate heavy nut foods, it seems! Also, my weight loss definitely slows down during times of eating more nuts.

I keep track of my weight daily and save it in an Excel spreadsheet file. I also keep track of food, exercise, and anything I notice going on with my body. I guess it is my journal of raw food. It began out of a neurotic obsession when I first went vegan several years ago to lose weight. With yo-yoing off and on, I have several different spreadsheets for each time I was 'on.' This is my first time 100% raw.

What was once an obsession is now a huge help for me. I can see the overall weight loss with the average trendline charted. If I were to weigh once a week, and happened to weigh in on a day when I was up a little, I would not see the big picture of true loss. Even though my weight fluctuates up and down a little here and there from day to day (with big jumps in either direction, too), I now do not worry about it. I weigh in just to keep track and I have let go of the times when I seems to be up a little because my chart shows me losing just fine! I have lost the same or more with raw than on low-fat vegan cooked diets. So, while my actual loss chart looks like hills and valleys, the trendline is one straight, steady, downward sloping line....just like I like to see it! :D

Just my opinion that differs from those that choose not to weigh often. I guess I use daily weighing as a liberation and huge motivation factor!

Just wanted to add that I do lose weight when all raw, usually the cooked grain is what causes water retention in me. I notice that when I have a cooked grain it goes to my stomach and makes me puffier in my face.

With my cholesterol, I need to watch my fat intake, especially plant fats, but this may be different with others - some people's levels drop even on higher fat. If you don't have any health concerns that require a lower fat intake it should not be a problem.

okay, here is a new recipe of mine, super fast, super easy and super delicious.

I call it,

Brownies

1 cup walnut (unsoaked)
1 cup dates (pitted unsoaked)
1/4 cup cocoa powder (you may use carob if you like)

place in food processor, and blend until well blended, should still be dry and chunky, maybe blend about 30 seconds,

press into a small spring form pan

refridgerate until you can insert a knife and it isn't too sticky

cut into little pieces, then pop into a zip lock baggie and freeze

they can be eaten fresh, from the fridge or from the freezer, they won't last long though, these are my newest addiction. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
